It's a pity more people don't do this. Also, public gardens and fruit and nut trees should be planted by councils. When I was a kid in the 70s there were lots of foraging opportunities locally. Unfortunately, the problem is that despite native nuts, fruit and berries being self-sustaining they impact profits for supermarkets. Growing your own herbs, fruit and veg used to be the norm and everything was organic, heritage produce. Enjoy the fruits and vegetables of your labour, no better feeling than self-sustainability and no better taste than homegrown.
