@Nickle314 The government give over £100 billion of your taxes to corporations in welfare and subsidies every year. Those corporations cost us between £40-120 billion per annum in unpaid taxes - the tax gap. The national debt has grown by over £1 trillion in the past decade to around £2.6 trillion now. It has also grown to give us a debt-to-GDP ratio of over 100% earlier in the year. The pound is worthless in the international market as it has fallen so far in value, meaning we pay more for our goods. Also, we don't buy our energy as part of the EU block anymore so energy prices are going up even higher in Britain than the rest of Europe...

@cockneycharm3970 The EU is a paradise for globalists and world leaders to get rich. But it still cost us trillions to leave and is a big part of the reason British people are struggling worse than the rest of Europe in the current environment. Tory corruption has made things far worse...

@Nickle314 lol again, you can't expect me to argue will drivel. Tories are responsible for creating 3/4rs of our national debt and sinking the pound to its lowest level in 60+ years. We pay for the state pension, I've paid for my state pension. The money is lost and squandered by government mismanagement. The losses on the pound has cost every pensioner thousands of pounds a year. Corporations are taking what little money is left in the pot after our debts are paid via our GDP. We only have a few per cent of the whole pot to spend because of the enormous debts the Tories created and the annual debt repayments. Whether you personally buy from overseas or not a fair percentage of our economy is based on overseas trade, meaning those profits will shrink because the pound is so low. Stop trying to make points when you barely understand the situation...

@Nickle314 Debt to GDP ratio was 99.6% at the end of the first quarter of 2022. Equivalent to 99.6% of the gross domestic product, which means the government can just keep the debt high and keep telling the taxpayers we're skint. While they give away £100 billion per annum (search for articles from 2016 for sources) and the tax gap is anywhere between £40-120 billion. Unemployment payments cost us £1.56 billion per annum so that means corporate tax losses alone are at least 30-70 times higher. I'm not going to get into the central banks, fractional reserve banking and FIAT currency because this is YT. The system is a con but we have to deal with the consequences. The Tories are playing games with the public while dipping their hands in the pot.

@Nickle314 I'm not sure how you think exposing Tory lies and economic mismanagement makes me a Tory supporter who believes their lies... The fact is global debts are over $300 trillion, over 4x global GDP. The system is a farce based on a farce. Money is simply a human construct that enables a tiny minority to control the vast majority of the world's 'actual' resources. As debt increases so does the wealth of the few which is why global debts increase year on year. Leaving a tiny minority with enough of the construct (money) to buy all the actual resources (water, land, human labour). Sovereign banking, Fractional Reserve Banking, FIAT currency etc are just tools or levers used against the poor to create the illusion of consistency.

@Nickle314 Stop talking nonsense and make a point, the system and especially the tories have many cons and no one actually believes National Debt is the whole story. We have bonds, foreign assets, and sovereign assets as well as fluctuations in sterling to be considered. If you have any idea what point you want to make, I suggest you make it and stop the immature ad homs. Not interested in discussing the intricacies of small cons when I've outlined the foundation of the fiscal illusion. If you want to make a point about National Debt or GDP calculations go ahead but it's a tangent to my initial joke and a tiny part of the topic...

@Nickle314 Lol you're a right-whinger fed on think tank data manipulations? State pensions can't be broken down so easily as you seem to naively believe. The debt has already been paid by contributions and the future debts will be paid by future contributions. The competence of those who invest that money and how they scam pensioners is relevant here though. But your nativity is evident in your asking redundant questions while spouting mythology. Neoliberalism has ruled the western world for the past 3 decades, a right-wing ideology that siphons your taxes into the pockets of corporations and shareholders while deregulating the banking sector. It was started by Thatcher and Reagan two Conservative right-wingers and despite the confusing name Neoliberalism is actually closer to Neoconservatism. The problems you see around you are not caused by the pittance in benefits, but by corporate greed which costs many times more to the taxpayer. There is no point debating with someone who uses myths. Tories are right-wing and they are responsible for our current debt and economic crisis.

@rosslogie217 That's part of it but then that legislation and crackdown was a reaction to the Panama scandal in which two famous PMs families were embroiled. Who happened to champion the EU divorce. Cameron and Boris Johnson. The Panama scandal exposed the fact that the lack of transparency on the crown, estates and overseas territories is responsible for over half of corporate tax losses globally. We avoided being tied to the EU anti-tax-avoidance directive by leaving the EU. It wasn't just those non-doms who profited but yes they spearheaded the campaign through the media.

@Nickle314 lol you just talk nonsense and think people can't tell? The way figures are phrased affects the meaning of the figure. That's why you should use base figures. Look what the national debt was in 2010 when the Tories took power, around £0.7-8 trillion. With the banker's bailout just over £1trillion. In just over a decade national debt has increased by £1.6 trillion. It's more borrowing than every other party before it combined. Regardless of the obsession you have with trying to subvert the argument on a tangent to tiny nuances regarding economics the debate is pointless. Anyone who uses the term Socialist Pensions is obviously making a statement. Social Democracy is responsible for the welfare state and without it sick children, the disabled, the elderly, and people with temporary illnesses would be left to die. Is that really what you want? Look at the percentage of our GDP spent on the welfare state compared to corporate welfare, tax losses, tax credits, cost of infrastructure, subsidies, grants, loans, initiatives etc... We have more than enough resources to live in dignity with all the basics covered, so why are a large percentage of the workforce not getting that? despite working hard and paying their taxes all their life? paying into pension schemes all their life. These concepts create civilisation, the rise in corporate greed can be seen in government accounts and the percentage of poverty in the UK. Seriously get a grip!

@Nickle314 No, I'm using the number everyone in the world understands from the term national debt. As I've already expressed the debt isn't the whole story and I've already listed many other things that affect both debt and GDP. You are making accusations and false assumptions while asking misleading questions and forcing words in my mouth, how can you expect me to take you seriously? Pensions aren't socialism, you don't have paid labour under socialism, and you don't have money under socialism. So your obvious ignorance means I can't answer foolish questions...

@Nickle314 Our entire GDP is over £3 trillion. Because of working people contribute to the economy. If it costs a couple of billion to pay them back for that hard work in their old age so what? "Pensioner benefit spending totalled £114 billion in Great Britain in 2020-21" That's all pensioner benefits including winter fuel allowance, pensions and any grants or entitlements...

@Nickle314 Why would I include costs that were nothing to do with pensioners, I gave the government figures for the total annual cost of pensioners and all entitlements... I'm not going to be sealioned by someone who posts alarming figures because they can't tell the difference between a long term projection and actual annual spending...

@Nickle314 lol I just gave you the annual cost figures for public sector pensions' you were talking about long-term fiscal projections of pension debt which is entirely different. National Debt is our debt, it includes everything we owe. Pension debt is a liability and is not included until it is paid/falls due. Not all of those due pensions will reach retirement age, not all those on pensions will be alive next week etc. So casting a forecast over a long period of time, then comparing that figure to annual GDP is pointless. It's like asking why civil servant wages for the next 20 years aren't added to the national debt, it's because they aren't due and when due they are added to that year's total...
