Many campaigns and petitions calling for it to be removed were ignored... If you were a victim by ancestry you wouldn't want to walk past a statue commemorating that person. Statues are supposed to commemorate great people who contributed to the lives of others... we don't have commemorative statues of Fred West or Ed Gein...

@theautisticcreative2619 People with learning difficulties and disabilities have been abused by society historically, and still are. Many who have overcome illness or disability have contributed greatly to the human race. But that's a separate point. If your family was enslaved or murdered by that man, you probably wouldn't want to walk past him every day. And as mentioned, statues to murderers shouldn't exist...

@psilocybinenthusiast3695 History books aren't being changed and history isn't being forgotten. Removing statues of abusive murderers who enslaved thousands and therefore should never have been erected is called decency, maybe you don't have any...

@theautisticcreative2619 I've tried to be polite but you just repeat the same arguments, unaware of what a circular debate is. I'm Welsh and white. My racial pain comes from my culture being beaten out of Welsh children a century ago. You have no argument, you're just defending the commemoration of a brutal murderer. Your comments are about as much use as an ashtray on the international space station.

@theautisticcreative2619 Your first 5 points are irrelevant, and I'm not sure anyone could argue in favour of any without dropping reason and logic. Your last point is back to circular debate and a point that hasn't previously been mentioned that only proves your lack of logic. All statues are of a specific race, culture, ethnicity... what you mean is that that you don't like having a minority statue, despite the fact that 99% of all other statues represent white culture... As for the oppression comment, it contradicts your previous point. But I can't spend the time explaining that to you because I'm trying to teach a whale to fly, as it's easier than talking to you...

@stevefletcher8157 Statues aren't history and taking down a statue to a genocidal slaver doesn't negate history. There was no history on the plaque and there are no historical records in a statue. We don't erect statues to Fred West or the Yorkshire ripper so stop whining! As for Nelson Mandela, he spent 27 years in prison being tortured for trying to free his country from invaders, so stop talking nonsense. Racist D...

Judging from your comments you're mid-twenties and a right-wing meme reader... PS in his trial in 1964 he said peaceful protests failed, so the ANC matched violence with violence. If you look at how many people were killed by the apartheid regime, you can't blame them for fighting back. One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. It's a matter of perspective and with violence against black S.Africans being so high from the apartheid government what else could they do? When governments kill their own citizens your only choice is to fight or die... Try providing an argument for Colston's slavery and mass murder? He wasn't fighting an oppressive regime, he was part of one... Try logic and reason.
