Despite my calculations using the government stats that there are 27.8 million households and that times £200 is £5.5 billion, Boris just said in PMQs the energy scheme will actually cost £9.1 billion. So I'd assume that the extra £3.6 billion is administrative costs. Over 1/3rd of the cost of this scheme is admin generating debt to the taxpayer and increased profits to government contractors while ensuring bumper profits for energy companies in October and leaving the consumer with a £40 debt burden for 5 years! How exactly is this helpful to anyone but shareholders in the energy companies and government contractors?
