Comments by "Steve Parker" (@steveparker8065) on "Texas Shooting: Will tighter gun control follow?" video.
The US has had over 200 mass shootings this year alone. We have a population of 68 million in Britain and mass shootings are rare, the first and last school shooting we had was in 1996 in Dunblane. 16 children and one teacher were dead with at least 17 others injured. It was a major issue and an investigation was started by parliament. In December 1997 the House of Commons voted by a wide margin for Labour Party legislation to effectively ban all handguns, over 160,000 were handed in. Lots of people still own guns in Britain but mainly for sport and hunting and they abide by strict rules on licensing, storage and usage. America's problem is how highly the second amendment is regarded and the gun lobby, but hopefully they go down the same route as us.

@MrLatarianMilton They are all listed on the gun violence archive you will find if you search for it and each case is listed with the location, state and stats of injured, dead etc. So really easy to fact-check and prove it's all fact!

@ElliHarper Sounds like xenophobic nonsense and I've already discussed stats. If you think guns aren't the issue with mass shootings explain the success of no school shootings in the UK for over 25 years...

@kevinparker461 There are around 600-700 thousand licensed firearms in the UK and yes plenty more than that floating around on the black market. Luckily gun crime is still relatively low in the UK but it's getting worse.

@walterblock5082 Yea I think read around 1.2 guns per American. It won't be easy to get around the second amendment and gun lobby. But no one has to give up their guns, they just have to follow sticker rules to keep their licence (including not handling or carrying in public) which is key to reversing the gun culture. No one says it's going to be easy, but either fight for that or continue to accept children being killed en masse...

@welditmick I was getting that feeling from Beto O'Rourke verbally challenging his rival at a press conference. He was shouting "You chose to do nothing!" at him and a panel of cops. Your comment has helped me confirm it, cheers.

@alexojideagu Raoul Moat killed 1 person and injured 2 in a 6day fugitive run. It wasn't a mass shooting (Which usually requires at least 4 victims for it to be classed as a mass shooting) and it certainly wasn't a school shooting which is what I was talking about. We have shootings and rare mass shootings but we haven't had a mass shooting at a school since Dunblane.

@thedarkwolf2525 Nothing is stopping anyone in any country from illegally buying an assault/automatic rifle and going postal. Or turning a bread knife into a stabbing spree. The things that make that harder to do are legislation on weapons and gun controls. It's harder to sell weapons on the black market in a country with tighter gun laws. It's also harder to get away with carrying a weapon in countries where it's illegal to carry a firearm/weapon in public.
