Corporations making bumper profits, the Tories are all wealthy yet the poor get poorer. It's almost as if there is a directly proportional connection between wealth and poverty...

@jimthompson9370 No rebuttal of my correction of your misinformation? Yes, I miss integrity, compassion, decency and the fact that we wouldn't be in this mess if we'd nationalised the energy market, had responsible economic decisions and funded the NHS...

@reasonerenlightened2456 Agreed, those on the lowest wages spend all their money. They don't have spare to save and invest so they put it all back into growing the economy. Many countries powered their way through the financial crisis that way while the Tories chose to implement austerity which slowed growth.

@jimthompson9370 lol you mean they suck over £100 billion from the taxpayer in corporate welfare and subsidies every year while costing the country £40-120 billion via the tax gap. Then there are bailouts and the fact we have to top up our own wages using taxpayer money via tax credits. The Tories who borrowed £1.5 trillion in twelve years and crashed the economy are good with finance? You don't seem sure of anything mate, because you obviously don't understand the situation...

@Johannes C 100%. Look at Bezos who profits from sweatshops, low waged employees and tax loopholes. He has $124 billion which is enough money to spend $1 million every single day for 339 years.

@thomasbradley2225 You haven't read my posts and are unable to see that wealth and poverty are inextricably linked. There is a direct correlation between corporate greed and lower living standards. Our taxes should not be used to bailout corporations and top up shareholder profits... The corporations are getting freebies from our taxes and as a result our living standards decline...

@thomasbradley2225 You are redefining what I said into your own terms. If you can't interpret my comments without misrepresenting them then I don't see any further point to discussion. The UK taxpayer paid £120.1 billion in subsidies alone in 2021 to corporations that get tax breaks, bailouts, loopholes and dodge taxes. The tax gap is between £40-120 billion. Yet we have 22% of the population in poverty, many of them working. We have had a debt to GDP ratio of over 100% this year, yet before privatisation from Thatcher's neoliberalism, our debt to GDP was around 40%. I'm not saying it's all down to privatisation, but it sucks a large amount of our taxes while the government outsource their responsibility to shareholders.

@thomasbradley2225 Accepting something is grossly inhumane doesn't take an economic expert. Different economic schools have different interpretations of that I'm well aware. I'm not expecting altruism from corporations, but a lack of kleptocracy from my government. Stating the obvious no matter how eloquent is redundant. The fact that most of the UK, US and indeed many western countries with high poverty can be traced back to Thatcher and Reagan's neoliberalism is illuminated by stats and facts. I've provided some of those relevant to the UK and indeed these can be traced back to pre-pandemic/Brexit Britain. Accusing me of envy when I have proven my case with stats and facts is churlish to say the least. My own circumstances are irrelevant to global stats, anecdotal evidence is pointless.

@thomasbradley2225 Ayn Rand lol that explains your logical fallacies and misinterpretation of obvious points of reason. I'm talking about the scale that's traceable back to Neoliberalism in the UK. You obviously aren't able to follow reasoned debate without going off on a tangent. 60% of human labour is unnecessary and caused wasteful pollution making objects with built-in obsolescence to continue fleecing the cash cows. Technology has provided us an enhanced living, capitalism buries inventions that are useful to protect corporate profits. I'm not going to waste more time on someone who can't follow logical discourse and offers delusional circular debate while proliferating fallacy. 4 wars were fought after the CIA instigated the Arab Spring to protect petrodollar hegemony. Billions have been lost to resource shortages because of capitalist endeavours. I've had a wonderful, intelligent, constructive and enlightening debate... But this wasn't it!

I could rebutt every sentence you type and you'd still repeat your erroneous claims in a continual circular debate. So what would be the point? Americans believe 70s Hollywood Russophobic propaganda and misinterpret a basic ideology that states the tools of production should be owned by all, not an elite class. That all resources belong to the people. If a dictator takes over they are no longer following that ideology! Study Lenin and not Stalin...

@thomasbradley2225 The US has interfered in every South American country since the 20th century. The CIA and your understanding are biased from the start. I don't support Putin, I don't put forward Communism as a solution. Democracy doesn't exist when lobbyists control your politicians. The free market doesn't exist when you have tariffs, embargoes, sanctions, blockades etc. You can't enforce regime change in other countries because you want to discredit their ideology. Libya was a socialist-style country they used 'The Green System'. Gaddafi was essentially just a figurehead because he'd fought US imperialism all his life and was respected. Libya had no IMF debt, no international debt. Libya had $150 billion in reserves, 143 tons of gold and a similar amount of silver. Libya also created the world's largest irrigation project. Having a house was a human right, each Libyan had a share in the country's 50 billion barrels of oil and petrol was $0.14 per litre. Then Libya decided to create an African currency 'The Dinar' to challenge the petrodollar for oil sales in Africa and the Middle East. Many countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria all dropped the petrodollar for oil sales. America's reaction wasn't to legitimately compete in a capitalist system, they chose to invade to enforce regime change and to loot Libya's gold, precious metals and oil. US Capitalism brought human trafficking and slavery to Libya and caused the death and migration of millions.

What has African history got to do with enforced regime change in Libya? Americans are responsible for Gaddafi's death and torture, keep telling yourself lies if it makes you feel better. You should read Thomas Paine and understand the similarities between his beliefs and socialism. Your country has been at war 228 of its 246 years and only 3 countries globally haven't been the recipient of US interference and global hegemony. @thomasbradley2225 We don't need to understand Keynesian economics to see how it works globally. Theory and practice are two separate beasts. Those countries that didn't enforce austerity in Europe recovered quicker from the financial crisis. You'll be a proponent of "Trickle-down economics" I expect, despite after decades no country has seen it work. The exact opposite in fact, as the poverty gap grew. For instance, the top 1% in Britain doubled their assets during Austerity. Anyways feel free to reflect on my points and enjoy your Thanksgiving. I won't reply to this thread again.
