@b00ts4ndc4ts No those profits go to the Dutch, Chinese, German and other owners of our rail networks and in many cases goes towards supporting their own nationalised transport systems. Before neoliberalism and privatisation, we use to run a debt-to-GDP ratio of around 40% max, now it's almost 100%... Our taxes go to shareholders' offshore accounts and out of our economy!

@b00ts4ndc4ts Agreed, under nationalisation workers had decent wages and all profits went back into subsidised fares for the public and improvements to the infrastructure.

For example, our emergency blood supplies were sold to Bain Capital for £90 million by the Tories, and they were then sold on by Bain for almost 10 times the amount at £820 million to the Chinese Creat Group. 80% of our emergency blood supplies...

@DropdudeJohn No mate, of up to 8%, covering 2022 and 2023. That is not the same thing and is still a pay cut as it fails to meet inflation. Not to mention most will only see 4% and they have to agree to contractual and working practice changes as well as huge job losses.

@DropdudeJohn The changes include automated trains, closing all ticket kiosks and huge job cuts. Commuters will also suffer from the usual technical glitches and the loss of ticket booths. The workers would be signing their own P45s...

@harryfaber I think you'll find in the 70s under nationalisation a single working wage could support a family and pay for a mortgage... You can't do that with 2 full-time incomes these days. Not to mention in 2021 taxpayers gave over £120.1 billion in subsidies to corporations, and then there are the bailouts, tax breaks, tax loopholes, grants etc. Nationalisation will always be cheaper as privatisation adds a layer of admin and profit requirements.

@tcskips lol free market? like the energy cartels? Does a free-market often include subsidies, bailouts, tax breaks, grants, loopholes, monopolies? We don't have a free market and I've already proven by efficiency and cost that privatisation has always failed. Without taxpayers bailing out private industry they'd predominantly be bankrupt. I'm not going to have a circular debate with someone who hasn't read the thread and repeats redundant points of little interest. I'm not so ignorant as to fall for that nonsense. Efficiency on certain government contractors of 3% isn't something to be proud of. Neither is continually bailing out bankrupt entities with taxpayer money while investors bet against them on hedge funds. Before privatisation we had a debt-to-GDP of around 40%, it's been above 100% this year and in 2021 we paid over £120.1 billion in subsidies alone. What percentage of taxpayers' money went to shareholders before neoliberalism and privatisation and what percentage of taxpayer money goes to their offshore accounts now? out of our economy. Take your privatisation PR to someone gullible enough to fall for it...

@DropdudeJohn No I'm standing up to the digitisation of our lives and the mistreatment of workers already suffering a cost of living crisis... When money is gone and our digital footprint is all we have, getting cut off from the means to support ourselves will be done by the push of a button...

@DropdudeJohn lol read the story again, the plans include automating trains and the sale of tickets and closing all booths. As I said not everyone has options, many people use cash.

@tcskips lol no, most train operators are privatised industry that has been reduced in capacity by corporate profits, very few have been taken back and those that have we paid for with bailouts and then were reprivatised. Government corruption and efficiency losses due to privatisation are to blame.

I'm well aware of Tory running down nationalised infrastructure in order to enforce privatisation. Don't blame nationalisation it worked for 40 years until Thatcher's neoliberalism... Now look at mail, energy, water, transport, and communications all suffering from privatisation and the profits go to offshore accounts of shareholders. At the taxpayer's expense.

We are tied to jobs that produce ineffective, cheap rubbish with built-in obsolescence to enforce a continual cycle of consumerism. Your inability to appreciate that is the flaw in your argument that makes your comments as pointless as a rubber ball...

Future trends based on technological advances that only enhance corporate profits while filling the oceans with plastic, destroying the climate and risking the extinction of the species. Not really a good argument... We need to stop wasting human resources on futile attempts to put a bandaid on a system that has been deceased for decades...

@DropdudeJohn We have lost 65% of genetic diversity at around 1,000 times the rate of natural extinction. Why don't you mention technologies which lie in the basements of industrial giants never to be used because they get in the way of profits? What has mass immigration got to do with automation, make your mind up about who you want to blame. I am standing up for thousands of people who use money and don't have access to the latest technologies. Like the 40% of British workers either in working poverty or at risk of. Illogical analogies about an air ambulance when we are talking about automation is farcical, especially since I've already told you I'm not a Luddite. If you can't use critical thinking and logical arguments then debate becomes as much use as a rubber beak to a woodpecker.

@tcskips Not a rebuttal just an uninformed opinion. Privatisation or in other words the art of siphoning taxpayer money to the private sector while providing no smaller percentage of costs to our GDP... We spend the same now as we did in the 70s, the only difference is the services have gone down the tubes (literally; transport and water) while the costs have gone up for Brits as both consumer and taxpayer... PS not impressed with the awful PowerPoint presentation of little substance and word salad...

@tcskips Free market capitalism has never existed - embargoes, trade tariffs, sanctions, blockades, resource wars, petrodollar hegemony. Before privatisation was installed via Thatcherite neoliberalism we had nationalised industry that fulfilled all our needs for over 40 years. For instance, the NHS was fully funded, no waiting lists, we had family doctors, twice the hospital beds, twice the staff and a far more efficient service in the 70s for a far smaller cost... Now we have corrupt contracts that charge 10 times the price of generic medication, outsourcing, layers of admin and middle management, loss of profitable assets (emergency blood supplies, land, hospitals) and that's only soft privatisation. Neoliberalism and its primary failure of privatisation have led to huge debts in every country it's used. Four decades of privatisation has doubled GDP spending and yet government services has been reduced greatly. Unless you got anything better than PR, then I suggest you read some articles.
