This is the problem with mass industrialisation and consumerism. We have many countries taken over by corporate groups with mass production of a small number of products. Conflict and corporate greed expose the short-sightedness of this approach. Countries should be as self-sufficient as possible, there are luxury items only available in certain locations, but with modern technology, most countries can produce the majority of their own needs. They simply don't because of mass production being cheaper and creating more profit. Britain is an excellent example of this, we are reliant on global commerce for much of our basics like food, energy and production, which was exposed by the pandemic and the subsequent food and product shortages as well as huge energy price increases. With conflict on the horizon, we really need to address this issue as a priority and create a more durable community by reducing poverty.
