Despite constant media lies to the contrary - Brexit was all about Britain being the global leader in corporate tax avoidance and the criminal elite's money laundering thanks to the crown estates and overseas territories which lack transparency. Obviously, the EU crackdown after the Panama Papers scandal - which references many top Tories, Royalty and Russian oligarchs - and the EU Anti-Tax Avoidance Directive that resulted in 2015 was a huge incentive for Cameron's visit to the EU the same year, to beg the EU to add loopholes or exclude Britain. Cameron returned empty-handed and then announced the Brexit referendum. All this has been brought back to the forefront by the Pandora Papers exposing similar connections to Royalty, Russian Oligarchs and top politicians.

  14. Thanks Phil, great explanation. In the 70s before Thatcher and her anti-union legislation. One working wage could feed a family and support a mortgage, we had skilled jobs (not broken down into simple tasks) and we had corporations that gave their workers summer day trips, Christmas parties with pressies for the kids, a decent pension to look forward to. We were as workers part of a family and almost everyone had in-work support from union reps.

Just because someone was born with a trust fund and their family has lived on inherited wealth for generations or because they invest that money in highly lucrative immoral, heartless and often criminal forms of profiteering it doesn't mean they're a bad person. Just because the government and big business conspire to rob hard-working taxpayers using tools like subsidies, tax relief, tax breaks, low wages and corporate welfare that doesn't mean the average person should complain about silly little things like not being able to heat their home, supply energy to the devices they rely on to function or indeed feed their family. If you don't have enough money to live you should consider not living. It's long past time to stop blaming the criminal elites for their effect on our lives and take personal responsibility for the world we had no choice in moulding, even though we are given the illusion of choice. I hope I've made myself clear!

  77. We should be 100% reliant on renewables. We are an island with lots of wind, rivers, coast and a fair bit of sun. The Tories have been cutting funding to renewables for years and going back on promises which has left us reliant on Norway and Russia for our gas. Gas is the predominant fuel used to create electricity, so when we talk about energy we are mainly talking about our reliance on gas. Norway are virtually 100% reliant on renewable sources of energy and sell us their excess, there are many countries that are 100%. We should be self-sufficient with resources such as energy and food, especially in the modern unstable world. Renewables will always be stigmatised in the media, and yes even renewables rely on materials and processes that aren't ecologically friendly. However, 100% renewable energy must be a goal for any modern country.

Money is simply a human construct that allows a tiny minority to control the majority of the world's 'actual' resources. There are only two actual resources - Human beings and the Planet (Vegetable, Animal, Mineral) and these are exploited to the detriment of the species and the near extinction of the human race and the ecosystems we rely on to survive. We are communal animals, social animals we can't survive without each other. No matter how much wealth we have we are still reliant on people growing our food, maintaining our machinery/tools, cleaning our environment, healing our ailments and a functional ecosystem to provide us with oxygen. Allowing the ego to convince us we are special or some sort of demi-god because we own a successful corporation is a mental ailment. The more resources we use the more we rely on the exploitation of child labour, sweatshops and poverty wages.

  124. On the contrary, I love the way Brexit has improved the lives of Brits up and down the country. How smooth the transition was and how quickly all the border, import and export issues were solved. I was especially pleased with how little money was spent on administration and how Britain's standing improved on the global stage, especially in Europe. There were virtually no financial losses and the pound keeps soaring ever higher. Britain has become unified and we all feel a closer kinship with the world. It's like a dream come true and there were hardly any teething problems as you'd expect with such a vast change. So glad we didn't lose any of the trading deals and relationships that took decades to accomplish. An all-around success story for Britain... ;-)

Maybe I wasn't that bad but I managed to correct most of my problems through constant reading. Many letters and words I used to misread, mix up etc, my brain autocorrects now and I'm still learning at 49 via online spellchecker/grammar plugins. I realise that may not work for everyone, especially those with severe dyslexia but after 30+ years of reading sci-fi, fantasy, news and politics I struggle far less.

We also had better water quality, less polluted rivers and coasts and despite the odd hosepipe ban during very hot summers, there were fewer problems of leaks, contamination and waste that we get today. Also, my comment regarding food is about growth, harvesting is what was called foraging. As a child In the 70s I foraged for hazelnuts, chestnuts, gooseberries, blackberries and many other foods that grew wild locally. In many countries fruit and nut trees grow in the neighbourhood and are picked as needed by the local community.

In the 70s we used to forage lots of native fruits, berries, nuts as kids, but before long the trees were replaced by aesthetically pleasing trees that provide nothing edible. If people are born with more privilege and opportunities than others they will always be able to manipulate the system even further to their own advantage. We changed from feudalism to capitalism and the same feudal lords grew in power under capitalism. Human beings need to grow and pair and drop this idea of social hierarchy. Inequity will always feed disorder and division. The system needs to be designed from the bottom up with those best suited to the job given the opportunity. I think building a new system from the ground up is the best way forward. Similar to your idea regarding the lords. Those most qualified for the job. Money is a con, it's simply a human construct that in practice just acts as a pyramid scheme and allows a tiny minority to own and control the vast majority of the world's 'actual' resources (land, water, human labour). We need a resource-based economy with a focus on ecology, biodiversity and sustainability. Where goods are valued based on usefulness, labour intensity, availability, sustainability etc. We need a system based on equality that encourages personal growth, not the accumulation of wealth. We had a eutopia at the start, we just get further from it. The idea that fiscal reward is more important than the admiration of your peers and society is a corruption of logic. We have global debts of over $300 trillion (4x global GDP) and a small office building (Ugland house) in the Cayman Islands with over 40,000 registered entities. Fractional Reserve Banking with FIAT currency is a farce and since the loss of the gold standard money is no longer tied to a physical resource. We are heading for digital currency and digital IDs which would make us vulnerable to being cut off from the means of supporting ourselves.

But even when I started work in 87 the larger companies still had a lot of those traditions. NATO/US has been trying to get Ukraine to join NATO as they want an outpost on the Russian front. Putin is an authoritarian, right-wing megalomanic and so the Ukrainian invasion was always a likely outcome of NATO pressure. Both sides are using Ukraine for their own ends while we've seen Ukraine trying to walk a line of independence while retaining close ties to its neighbours. I don't believe in absolutes, life is full of grey areas despite the media trying to define polarising narratives constantly, to drive a wedge between society on a multitude of issues.

The Representation of the People act 1948 changed it to the current system although it was 1950 before that system was used in elections - before that we've used several different systems including Single Transferable Vote, BLOC vote, and Limited vote. While many share the aspects of PR (Especially Single Transferable Vote which has been reintroduced in the N.Ireland Assembly since 1973) However, you are correct that we've never really had a true PR system throughout the UK. Although the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Senedd and the London Assembly have been using PR for a couple of decades.

Many countries can support their population during times of war or disease via their native production. It used to be a given before mass production. People would still have the choice of luxury goods from supermarkets, but we should as a nation, be self-reliant.

After all, while 1/3rd of the population live in working poverty why not give their taxes to billionaires to buy a new yacht... But Trump, Cambridge Analytica scandal and Brexit was the work of a cabal including Robert Mercer, Steve Bannon, Andrew Breitbart, Arron Banks, Peter Thiel, Peter Hargreaves etc with some minor players such as Jacob Rees-Mogg, Nigel Farage, Dominic Cummings. It seems to be more financial motivations and power rather than purely political ones. Although obviously political motivations are entwined and the power from the politics helped.

Though they still have a long way to go regarding human rights. China has more billionaires per capita than anyone else in the world. According to the Hurun Global Rich List 2021, Greater China housed the most billionaires worldwide in 2021. China has also bought over $1 trillion of US debt. This means that China holds 14% of US foreign debt. I think some of what you say regarding China, N.Korea and Iran is western propaganda. They are not part of the cool club and so are often vilified in western media, being our historic adversaries.

Fed reserve was started in 1913 and that model of banking spread across Europe and the rest of the world in the following decades. A system of debt slavery and national leverage. We now have close to $300 trillion in global debt, 4x global GDP. Very few countries are free of that Fractional Reserve Banking and debt slavery structure. Many groups control the West but the one you mentioned are predominantly steering us toward a tyrannical dystopian corporatocracy.

  566.  @piccalillipit9211  I didn't realise that was the level you were talking about as during the daytime natural blue light helps to maintain alertness, helps memory and cognitive function and regulates a healthy circadian rhythm/sleep cycle. As does a good walk or spending time in natural daylight (One thrid of all visible light is blue light and the sun is the biggest natural source). To be fair to save energy I turn everything off at the wall and never have any electrical source on in my bedroom other than the alarm clock. I've suffered from insomnia and find breathing exercises, relaxation and reading a book to be the most helpful, although that requires light :)
