Comments by "Steve Parker" (@steveparker8065) on "UK economy grew by 0.2% between April and June - ONS figures" video.
The economy shrank by 0.3% in March alone. Our economy shrank by 5.5% due to Brexit so this 0.2% growth barely scratches the surface of our previous losses. But don't worry about the banks and their management teams, they're all getting huge payouts, after all, If they fail they'll just ask for another bailout...

@RaRa-eu9mw Exactly, this 0.2% quarterly growth only covers 2/3rds of the losses from March alone. It doesn't even touch the previous losses including the huge loss of 5.5% from Brexit...

Last year our GDP was £400 billion lower than in 2018 so your sarcasm is noted. It has been claimed by many that Brexit cost at least 5.5% of our GDP. But I invested in Unicorns and grassy sunlit Uplands so I'll be fine!

@RaRa-eu9mw To put that in perspective our GDP was £2.8+ trillion in 2018, last year it was only £2.2 trillion...

@RaRa-eu9mw That may be just England or the comparison to 'current prices' which is essentially fudging the figures, but our actual GDP for 2018 was £2.878 trillion as noted by the World Bank and in 2019 it was £2.857 trillion again the source is the World Bank... In 2022 it was just £2.2 trillion according to statistica while the world bank states around £2.49 trillion. Either way a huge loss and that doesn't take into account the price increases which means spending power is now also lower...

@RaRa-eu9mw It's only 3.07 in dollars not in pounds it's actually (according to the World Bank) "United Kingdom 2022 £2,491,238.00" Read closely it clearly states "GDP (current US$) 2022 3.07" for the UK.

"Economic Indicator Most recent value Trend GDP (current US$) current US$ 3.07 (2022 trillion)" "Economic Indicator Most recent value Trend GDP (current LCU) current LCU 2.49 (2022 trillion)"

@larslarsen5414 The total losses during the past 4-5 years are twice the 5.5% stated. The Brexit losses are calculated by studies - one of which was done by the Office for Budget Responsibility.

@ବିନୋଦକୁମାରବିଶ୍ଵାଳ Rishi was Chancellor of the Exchequer between 2020 and 2022... So erm no - he was partly responsible for the decline of ‑11.03% from 2020 to 2022...

@tastypymp1287 If that was the case how come we suffered losses while the Eurozone grew by 2.4%? Most of them went further than us with lockdowns. Fact is we were one of the worst performers in the G7 also. So no, wasn't the main factor, just contributory as proven by Eurozone, US and G7 growth far above us as our economy shrank. We got played!
