Comments by "Steve Parker" (@steveparker8065) on "UK Govt won't bail out energy companies - Business Secretary" video.
Why is this even a discussion? Taxpayer money is not a pot of gold for shareholders. We should have nationalised energy and supply our own needs. Self-sufficiency in this day and age is a must...

Norway uses 98% renewable energy and supplies part of the 47% of the natural gas we get from Europe. If Tories hadn't repeatedly cut funding to renewables and the British energy market we wouldn't be in this position. Coupled with the fact that we don't keep large reserves as most sensible countries do, making us reliant on Norway, Belgium and Russia... While also being at the mercy of energy price increases as we have no buffer in reserve...

@Ash-os1dz We pay over £100 billion to corporations in corporate welfare and subsidies out of our taxes every year, those corporations cost us between £40-120 billion in unpaid taxes each year. We used to own our own energy supplies now we pay a consortium that has increased prices by 560% in the past year alone. Seriously your arguments are illogical and nonsensical...

@Ash-os1dz 98% of Norway's power is created with renewables, which isn't up for debate as it's an easily researchable fact. They supply us with gas out of their excess, proving the original comment and yours moot!

@Wa ge My dream is not to be reliant on old adversaries for power during an age when nuclear proliferation has restarted and battle lines and coalitions are being formed. We are at the mercy of other countries such as Russia for our energy supplies, we've had a 560% increase in energy prices in that past year...

@Ash-os1dz PS Albania, Iceland, and Paraguay obtain essentially all of their electricity from renewable sources (Albania and Paraguay 100% from hydroelectricity, Iceland 72% hydro and 28% geothermal). Norway obtains 98% of its electricity from renewable sources almost 97% from hydro.

@Ash-os1dz lol I'm not going to debate opinion over fact. I've already proven many countries are almost if not 100% renewables and we have just as many opportunities but we aren't funding them.

@ralphlee6386 My comment has been filtered to the bottom of the pile while It was ahead of yours on likes. The main use of Gas is to make electricity so the two are synonymous, I thought you'd have realised that being so opinionated. Your argument about subsidies is untrue, nationalised industry doesn't take subsidies, it's privatised industry that takes subsidies. Most renewables are national projects. Your market prices are based on multiple factors, but the more investment the cheaper and more effective solutions become available. Not that we have a choice as fossil fuels are finite and running out.

@thomasmusso1147 We used to rely solely on hydropower before electricity and steam engines. Africa has thermal energy and space in generous proportions. Britain is ideal for wind, solar and hydro being a windy island... We already generated 43% of our energy requirements in q1 2020 (Solar contributed 28%) with renewables in the UK. Energy is all around us in multiple forms, capitalism is the problem, not renewables.
