  1. No one has ever asked me If my heritage was Celtic, Saxon, Roman, Viking, Norman etc in my 50 years of life. No one ever asked me where my ancestors came from. I guess it isn't relevant as I'm white... I can imagine it could be quite a shock to your self-image and sense of National pride to be repeatedly questioned...

  2.  @Mark-Haddow  I'm Welsh, a Celtic cousin. She was asked which part of Africa she was from, she said she didn't have any records. She was then asked her Nationality to which she replied born in London, I'm British. Then she was asked where 'her people come from' to which she replied her parents came here in the 50s. She was then told she was Caribbean. To which she replied I'm of African heritage, Caribbean descent and British nationality...

I understand her intention may have been to show an interest but the prevalence of this attitude in aristocracy was also highlighted by Megan for which she received bad press and threats from the far right. I can't imagine how someone would feel being born in Britain to be so questioned, it's the same as Americans who use the term African-Americans to enforce a difference. An American lady who visited Sweden was almost in tears when she was simply referred to as American without the prefix African. It's hard for us to understand how a person's perception, confidence and place in the world can be challenged and harmed with this type of subtle ethnocentrism.
