  1. Profits from the crown estate belong to the state/parliament. The sovereign grant may come out of those profits but that is a generous benefit payment. George III gave up the rights to the crown estate in 1760 to avoid bankruptcy and received an annual grant known as the civil list. His descendants still get that grant although it's now called the Sovereign Grant. This means we've been supporting his family for 263 years, the longest-running welfare spongers in British history...
