While I agree we need to reduce air pollution, especially in big cities. Putting the focus on the taxpayer instead of industry is a cop-out. Decent public transport would obviously help, but essentially UK air quality is predominantly affected by corporate pollution - transport, energy production via power plants burning fossil fuels, factories, waste plants etc. Industrial air pollution costs the UK taxpayer between £3.4 billion and £9.5 billion a year - according to the European Environment Agency.

@Theactivepsychos Like I said my comment is UK based, I did mention better public transport is needed and I did mention especially in cities! I'm simply pointing out that taxpayers constantly foot the bill for industrial pollution. I don't live in London and so have no irons in this fire so made a general comment about UK air pollution.

@Theactivepsychos PS Another thing I should have pointed out is that ULEZ disproportionately affects the poorest in London. Some of whom are threatened with job losses due to ULEZ costs. The wealthy polluters who use private jets are ignored. The 6 major airports in London contributed 23.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2019 alone. Let's also not forget smog has been a problem in London since the industrial revolution.

@Aethid No, it's lorries, vans etc used for deliveries, transportation of goods, takeouts, shopping and the 23.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year from the 6 major airports in London... Industry and the wealthy are the problem - not the poor who need their cars for work and can't afford to buy new...
