In 2010 when the Tories came to power it was around £1 trillion by Tory estimates, and that was after we bailed out the banks due to a cross-party decision. It's now over £2.8 trillion almost tripled in just 12 years, despite the dramatic cuts to public services. This a huge slice of our GDP.

  25. Offtopic: Yesterday I called a Tory MP inhumane and was told by one commenter that I was using the "language of evil". While another commenter alluded to a certain camp doctor (Josef) from the 40s and said that word should be reserved for people like that. Inhumane means cruel, causing suffering and without compassion. Those words describe many Tory policies and attitudes. These two commenters made it clear that my use of the word inhumane was unacceptable in their eyes. I don't believe in censorship, it reduces our capacity to oppose and drives the far right into echo chambers where they proliferate unchallenged. In my 50 years of life, I've seen things go from bad to worse while in more recent history the rise of the far right has become a severe problem globally. When we don't show our abhorrence to economic euthanasia or excess deaths directly linked to cuts. We normalise/enable this behaviour with our lack of opposition. It's pointless to politely explain to the Tories what they are doing is wrong. It's about as much use as an ashtray on the international space station. They already know, they are corrupt, they manipulate the system and the media to protect themselves. They are profiteering while shortening the lives of our families and loved ones. They use censorship to prevent our abhorrence of their policies being shared. This has led to the rise of the right and the neutering of the left at a time when the Overton window is being forced further to the right. We have a proud history in this country of heroes who gave their lives for the rights the Tories are now taking away with legislation. They didn't make the ultimate sacrifice so their progeny could apathetically enable the Tory agenda while binge-watching Netflix and finding things to be offended by on social media. Be offended by actions that cost lives and immense suffering, not the justified abhorrence and anger of decent people. Please don't force the silence of the censor your allies to protect the Tories from words which accurately describe their policies and attitudes. That enables the further erosion of our humanity to protect the ideals of polite discourse. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, unless there is no opposing force.   57. I agree with much of what Tim says, The NHS budget is being drained via outsourcing, privatisation and by prioritizing for-profit organisations within the NHS. This creates a huge drain on resources and massive amounts of bureaucracy and administration further slowing down the timeframe and effectiveness of treatment. Then Libya decided to create an African currency 'The Dinar' to challenge the petrodollar for oil sales in Africa and the Middle East. America's reaction wasn't to legitimately compete in a capitalist system, they chose to invade to enforce regime change and to loot Libya's gold, precious metals and oil. US Capitalism brought human trafficking and slavery to Libya and caused the death and migration of millions." I will say that banks should not have any say in our opinions and should have bank accounts available for anyone with any level of finance. Posh banks may choose not to let us paupers use them, that's fine as they are set up to handle the wealthy. But normal banks should not dictate acceptance of opinions or stop people having an account for those reasons. We are completely dependent on banking in the digital age and no one should be cut off from the ability to collect wages, pay bills, pay rent/mortgage etc.

The problem now is overpriced contracts, layers of admin and management, debt from private finance, sale of profitable NHS assets and essentially soft privatisation. I'd love to compare the amount of profits taken out of the NHS by shareholders these days in comparison to the 70s. I'm sure that would be very telling about where the taxpayer money is going. We have 1 in 10 people on NHS waiting lists, I've been on an urgent list waiting for an appointment for over a year.

Changes to legal aid brought in by the Tory government in 2012 to save money along with changes to the way in which solicitors are paid for legal aid work in 2006 means that justice is now harder to get and is truly only for those with money. There is no incentive anymore for justice, no financial incentive for solicitors to protect those on the lower rungs of the social ladder. We have a government that spent over £200 million of taxpayer money challenging the human rights of the disabled and vulnerable who lost financial support due to their legislation.

The NHS is paying back private financial debt thanks to Blair and the Tories who doubled down on PFIs, and pay for corrupt pharma contracts (Pharma has been fined £100's of millions). Outsourcing is another cause as well as the sale of profitable NHS assets and land. I'm not a fan of Starmer but Labour has also suggested a wealth tax to replace inheritance tax, as wealth is not taxed, only working income is... The NHS cost less in the 70s and we had family doctors and walk-in GP waiting times of under an hour, twice the beds, many more hospitals, many more ambulances and a far superior, more streamlined service in all aspects of health care. We need to remove outsourcing, middle management, privatisation, debt and let a competent government take responsibility for providing the best bang for buck on healthcare.

Many Barristers, Solicitors, Executives, Marketing and Sales people earn far more for a less necessary job many of whom did far less than 4 years of training with minimal debt. Doctors are essential to the health of the nation and the NHS is currently understaffed with over 100,000 vacancies. Many Doctors and Nurses can earn double in Australia, Canada, Germany etc.

If they are migrants or refugees then they are not illegal immigrants unless they violate British immigration laws and therefore it does not apply. You have to cross-reference that with the whole document, not just cherry-pick your favourite clause. My reading and comprehension skills are fine thank you! As I've already said: When does a migrant or refugee become illegal? "Illegal immigration is the migration of people into a country in violation of the immigration laws of that country." and "The UN Refugee Convention does not make this requirement of refugees, and UK case law supports this interpretation. As someone who has waited 20 months for an appointment to finally receive scans which showed fluid in my lungs, liver cirrhosis, gallstones and a few other issues it would be easy to jump on the bandwagon and defame the NHS.   341. This is the problem with mass industrialisation and consumerism. We have many countries taken over by corporate groups with mass production of a small number of products. Conflict and corporate greed expose the short-sightedness of this approach. Countries should be as self-sufficient as possible, there are luxury items only available in certain locations, but with modern technology, most countries can produce the majority of their own needs. They simply don't because of mass production being cheaper and creating more profit. Britain is an excellent example of this, we are reliant on global commerce for much of our basics like food, energy and production, which was exposed by the pandemic and the subsequent food and product shortages as well as huge energy price increases. With conflict on the horizon, we really need to address this issue as a priority and create a more durable community by reducing poverty.
