As a Vue/Svelte user, I agree, Angular had the best software patterns in TS world. I'm sorry, either you keep your code simple like Svelte or you buck up and make some robust components like Angular. None of this trash hooks patter from React

I don't understand why people can't get over the Vue and Svelte templating. By that logic, all templating in every programming language is bad, but this is just a bad take. I hate JSX because I hate mixing JS with my markup. I'd rather have attribute based templating instead. It's so much easier to read! Also, hooks will forever suck!

As someone who hates using React at all, this seems like the best stack to use if I'm forced to write React code.
4
Man, do JS devs not know OOP. Meanwhile React hooks being the truly toxic pattern of all time. That will forever be spaghetti code
3
@stickguy9109 yeah, all it takes is adoption. As more people tinker and push it to its limits, Godot will only improve. The game industry needs this now more than ever.

The only baddie out here is Oracle, but thankfully Java and MySQL have drop-in open-source replacements.

Wow, I didn't even realize the whole thing about the Vision Pro. As someone who advocates against using Apple, this is music to my ears. I really hope this leaves a huge dent in Apple's bottom line. On the other hand, if they acquire Unity, I will never use Unity at all. I will not support anything from Apple until they embrace open source, right-to-repair, consumer friendly principles.

This is a stark reminder for us web devs that if we are working with any third party tools, we need to build software that is as decoupled from the tools as possible. That way if we need to switch tools, roughly 90% of our code is reusable.
2
React having a community doesn't make it automatically better. When everyone is writing crappy components, why bother
2
That's one good thing I can say about Angular, even though I don't use it. My only gripe in that area is that they have new releases every 6 months and as someone that doesn't use Angular regularly, I decided not to invest my time in it to have to constantly check if my code has now become outdated. In Vue, the only major change has been the v2 to v3 migration, which was drastic, but at least backwards compatibility was available.
2
@CodingAbroad good to know. The context of my comment is because I have an Angular project that needs very little changes if any. So I would leave it alone for several months or even years and then come back and have to upgrade like three versions or more.
2
But given that Apple remains determined to stay behind its walled garden, what's the point? Unity will become just for apple devices. They are not trustworthy enough to allow us to use Unity outside of Apple.
2
This is just an embarrassment for React. If you're feeling tired of React screwing you over, just migrate already to literally any other framework available.
2
As a web developer that doesn't use Unity at all, my condolences. I feel for you and all the Unity refugees right now. I stand with you.
2
@dan6erbond I use Class components instead because they're the easiest to read and easier to organize your code. What Vue 3 did was just rip off React's disgusting mess of functional components with hooks. React has become a cancer on the JS community. If I'm gonna be forced to write components that way, I might as well migrate to svelte, where component implementations are even cleaner than anything I've ever seen.
2
React is truly a cancer in the web development sector
2
Switch to an open source engine, or one that uses C#. Transfer as much code as you can, and see if you can get your assets converted for import to another engine. Don't give up!

Jesus Christ! all that education and then all the tutorials out there on Youtube, Udemy, etc. This is a real category 5 💩storm
1
Yeah that reeks of pyramid scheme vibes
1
That's it, I'm leaving web development. I'm so done with this trash

FLUTTER 2024

About time. React is cancer. I'm tired of people hyping or even just settling for React because that's what everyone and their managers promote. We need to move forwards with new frameworks like Svelte, Alpine, and Solid. Simplicity is always better!
1
That's not a good thing. Files in general should be kept as small as possible for better code organization, there needs to be a balancing act.
1
That's why we gotta vote with our wallets, and our tech stacks
1
Great, more CSS-in-JS trash that we don't need. Make some single file components instead!
1
Same, that's been on my backlog to do as well. Unity is off the list, Godot is definitely gonna be on my radar now. I also heard Godot's game architecture embraces a similar pattern to MVC which should feel familiar to us web devs.
1
I use TypeScript with everything. For my own projects, I use standard TS files, but in projects in which plain JS is used instead, I always make it a point to use JSDoc and TS definition files so that I can still use it without installing it as a dependency and without imposing it on the other devs (although I really think everyone should move away from JS)
1
Yeah that's all it is. In the web development world, everyone uses React, even though I personally think it sucks, yet Svelte exists and has great development experience, but few people adopt it because of "lack of ecosystem and community", which is really just a chicken and egg problem. Adoption is key, which in turn leads to improvement.
1
yep, Unreal and Godot are the main refugee camps right now
1
What a noob. Hooks are the dumbest thing to ever show up in all of front end development. So many disorganized components
1
@erockandroll39 if it's a simple game (2D, minimal animations, etc.) it's viable, but anything beyond that would take many years to complete.
