Lilly, this may sound like a strange idea, but it works very well. 40 years ago my girlfriend taught me to throw the meat directly on the red hot coals. After 2 or 3 minutes, flip it over on another area of red hot coals & leave it for 2 more minutes (depending on thickness). The meat cooks wonderfully. A couple of coals might stick, but most don't & the ones that do can be brushed right off. Much better than a rusty old grill.
This is also great entertainment if you have a guest, and they will be amazed at the outcome, as I was the first time I tried it.

I tell my friends it's the caveman kitchen.
Also, a can of beans can be heated right in the can they come in. Just don't overheat the can because, at least here in US, some cans have a lining.
