@julielang7850 I would want the water in sealed containers. You may have noticed that ice cubes disappear in your freezer from sublimation.

One of my dad's best quotes: "Don't hate the rich people, just get rich yourself!" So I took his advise.
14
Or move to Siberia, you won't even need a freezer!

@ecocentrichomestead6783 Not blowing dough on everything you want is a BIG help! All my life I've driven mostly free cars that "JUST" needed a little fixing up. Real clunkers. Retired now & could buy that brand new car, but don't even want it. I feel so lucky, the neighbor's dawg can climb in & go for a ride, I can park my vehicle anywhere I want & not worry about someone nicking my doors, & I never worry about someone stealing it!

@ecocentrichomestead6783 third way: work hard, spend wisely, invest regularly

I visited my old Boy Scout campsite from 55 years ago. The hand operated well pump is still there & working. I'm much more comfortable with that, than Chinese made solar panels.

@OutlawCaliber13 urban myth / old wives tale / whatever you want to call it. I used to tell my wife that leaving the light on for one hour used less juice than turning the light on. She was blonde! Still, I miss her dearly.

@sportsman7003 don't drive directly to it. Make a "J" shaped path. That way you may get a visual/audio warning from anyone approaching. You will have time to determine if its friend or foe.

@Ryan-ow2bq she's buried in the back yard!
3
@ellenbrooks5028 Depends on your spending/investing habits. It won't happen overnight, but you can make it happen!
3
I like your philosophy Bro! I won't ask about your precious metals, brass & lead!
2
@Old-Dog-Max my kind of folks!
2
Fake news Bro, it's Biden's fault.
2
@FurikuriYugi You sum kinna enjen ear?
2
@SvenArnhold interesting. I remember reading a book when I was in middle school. The family lived on a prairie and one day hail came down. The boy collected the frozen hailstones & the mother used them with salt in a hand-cranked ice cream maker to freeze some raw cow's milk. Apparently, salt is key to this process working.
2
@SvenArnhold ✔ that's just below zero Fahrenheit, which I believe is the recommended temp for storage.
2
@Old-Dog-Max We're just about the same age, I'm just 3 years younger. Seems AZ is going blue, TX will be one of the last refuges. I'm hoping to leave New England & end up in TN or TX.

@Old-Dog-Max Some truth to what you said. I just spent the evening around a campfire with 4 of my left wing neighbors. In essence, they are nice people & we had a good evening, but their politics are reprehensible.

I always liked those XT60 connectors.
1
@OutlawCaliber13 I'm not talking motors!
1
@OutlawCaliber13 yes, absolutely correct for anything with an electric motor. Edit: some motors have a capacitor to give it the voltage kick it needs to get going. When you turn on a cheap window fan, alway turn it on high first. It will draw the most current starting up, and less once it reaches full RPM.
1
@theoldguy9329 yes, you are right about that. Water can be difficult sometimes.
1
@debraco7748 never saw the Bison pumps before. Quite nice stainless steel construction. No pricing on their website, so I assume they are expensive, but it's the kind of tool that I would want if my family owned a farm. (Even if I didn't have a deep well)
1
@willbass2869 Yikes! Good quality doesn't come cheap. But the great grand kids could still be pumping water with those pumps.
1
@carl8568 you're probably right. They've stolen some good manufacturing techniques from us, and produce some pretty nice things. But, I have a set of chinese kitchen knives. Every time I set one down, instead of lying on the side, it lies on the back of the handle - sharp blade facing up. I believe they designed it to cause injury to Americans.

@chrisloving6647 I'm mechanically inclined, and have little modern electrical knowledge. So I'd stick with what I can succeed with. I love the idea of a solar panel, but would not buy one unless someone who knows what volts & amps are correct & compatible could order it, hook it up, and teach me the ins & outs of it. Sure looks like Lilly is on top of that subject! She could teach me wires, & ill teach her firearms!
1
@reverands571 Inflation? When did that start?
1
@jamesklingler1098 I avoid math whenever possible.
1
@SegoMan yes, a definite extra benefit.
1
@Artoconnell I raise electric eels in my basement.
1
@Hankyjane we humans did pretty well without it for eons.
