@dldietz82 It's almost like weather is something that happens locally on a short time scale, and it's almost like climate is the long-term patterns in the weather tracked over at least 30 years or so. Almost like.

@davidsalo8397 Check this out dummkopf: "The most robust global changes in climate extremes are found in yearly values of heatwaves (number of days, maximum duration and cumulated heat), while global trends in heatwave intensity are not significant. Daily precipitation intensity and extreme precipitation frequency are stationary in the main part of the weather stations. Trend analysis of the time series of tropical cyclones show a substantial temporal invariance and the same is true for tornadoes in the USA. At the same time, the impact of warming on surface wind speed remains unclear. The analysis is then extended to some global response indicators of extreme meteorological events, namely natural disasters, floods, droughts, ecosystem productivity and yields of the four main crops (maize, rice, soybean and wheat). None of these response indicators show a clear positive trend of extreme events. @frozenheart7133 This is nonsense. It was hotter in the recent and distant past. There is no satellite data before 1979, and there was no real network of temperature stations outside Europe and America before the 1950s, so "hottest ever" is not very long! It was much hotter in America in the 1930s, and the Vikings grew barley on Greenland, which is impossible today. This is bull meant to scare people into giving up their prosperity. Satellite data shows the Earth is continuing to warm steadily at around one-tenth of a degree Celsius per decade. If we didn't have thermometers we couldn't even notice it.

@Reinhard.. I'm not quite sure what "from until" means, but I am, of course, fully aware that thermometers, after a fashion, have been in use for centuries. That does not mean, however, that they have been used consistently and repeatedly everywhere since 1880. During the latter half of the nineteenth century reliable records are only really available from parts of Europe, USA and eastern Australia, with a very small number of reliable stations outside of that. Even before 1950 there are essentially no GHCN-Daily stations in South America, India, S. E. Asia, China, Africa, or around the Poles.
