It also has oblasts (regions or provinces which I think is was he meant with states), Krais (territories), Autonomous Okrugs, Federal Cities (Moscow, Sevastapol (de facto, de jure Ukraine) and Saint Petersburg) and a autonomous oblast. So if you try to be a smart ass, alreast tell the whole truth.

@Aish5000 it happens with people that have been brainwashed for decades. It's easier to fool someone than to convince them that they have been fooled. I can show them the parallels in history between Russia's actions now and Nazi Germany, but they won't see it. After ww2 they had to show the German population the concentration camps, gas chambers and actual bodies of the victims before the population believed them.

@supercala332 It's officially actually a Federal Republic but defacto a unitary authoritarian republic (let's be clear a republic doesn't have to be democratic, just like how a monarchy doesn't have to be authoritarian).but I was actually talking about it's federal subjects. Federal subjects of Russia simply means the subdivisions of Russia. Russia has republics in them. So called national republics, like Buryatia. The republics have significant native populations. Have their own language besides Russian, their own presidents, constitutions etc. These are one form of federal subjects of Russia besides the Oblasts, Federal Cities, Krais, Autonomous Okrous and Autonomous oblast

And about the invasion of Iraq and intervention in Lybia, I am against those, as much as I am against those actions as much as the current invasion. Also I need to ask you this, where Nazi Germany's annexations of Austria and Czechia as well as it's invasion of Poland justified? I mean they used the exact same justification as Russia does now... the answer is no. Russia doesn't have a valid justification to invade it's neighbours. It's just neo imperialism and the reason those neighbours wanted to join NATO in the first place as Russia has centuries of history of subjugating and invading it's neighbours. Russia makes for a lousy neighbor. Also another question in regards of "historical connections", does it mean the UK is allowed to reclaim and invade 25% of the world? Or the Netherlands with Belgium, Luxembourg, Indonesia and Suriname? France and it's overseas colonies? Spain in the Americas? What about Portugal then? You see the bs of using historical connection as a justification?

@julius43461 NATO is a way of the smaller European nations, who have historically been overrun many times by France, Germany, Austria and Russia, to have some protection. It also stops the European powers from fighting each other. For example German -Russian wars were often fought in Poland and German - French wars in the Benelux. We were literally a speed bump to them. It's also a way for us small countries to have more say because of the US backing. We don't want to be invaded like Ukraine.

@blucantrell2 NATO is 0 threat to Russia. It's Russian paranoia. Stop living in the past, nobody is out to get you. Russia has a massive military (albeit poorly performing one) and has the largest nuclear stockpile. Not to mention it's sheer size makes it almost impossible to invade. Combined with their being almost nothing of value for the west in Russia.... there is simply no threat to Russia. Don't you think that if the West wanted to invade, it would have done so now?

@4FlatTires don't know if you're sarcastic lmao. But yeah the thing is that most Russians believe in this mythical version of the Russian history. They are completely brainwashed. This version of history, which we saw Putin spew on TV, is twisted, omits certain facts and is based on myths instead of facts. We did this in Europe in the 19th and 20th century too. It's a dangerous thing. It's for example how Mussolini claimed Italy should have a Mediterranean empire because of it's ancestor the Roman Empire. Or how the Germans claimed the "third reich" after the so called first (Holy Roman Empire) and second (German Empire). In my own country the mythical part was that we are supposedly descended from the Batavians (a Germanic tribe who rebelled against the Romans, so it was used to say we have always been independence fighters). It's all bullshit. We can learn from history and understand things from it but it can't be used for present day claims.

It was Russia that amassed troops. I actually think USA shouldn't have said it wouldn't intervene. Even if they never wanted too. I think Russia would not have invaded if their would have been a theoretical chance of the US intervening. They managed to get the opposite of what they wanted. Because Finland and Sweden joining NATO is a threat to SPB and Kaliningrad.

@deankruse2891 yeah it's a strategic disaster. Besides their economy going down the plummet, they created a hostile Ukraine. Not to mention that Finland and Sweden want to join NATO now. A disaster strategically in the Baltic region. Kaliningrad will be even more surrounded and important Gotland will be NATO territory then. That's not even including the fact that Saint Petersburg would be in a dangerous situation if Finland joins. It would be close to NATO on two sides. Not to mention that in case of war the gulf of Finland would be blocked. Strategically a disaster. Both Black Sea and Baltic could be closed to Russian trade.

@4FlatTires thanks ! I always try to be informed about a subject before commenting. Always try to have multiple sources from multiple different cultures/sides. Always check the background of said sources. In the case of this conflict. You should see the Russian people as having a collective trauma. The second world war or as they call it the great patriotic war, has traumatized them. The fact that so many Soviets died (14 million Russians and 8 million Ukrainian for example) and the damage the Germans caused has scarred the nation. That combined with ww1 and Napoleon, all invaders from the west, has created this paranoia and in some cases hate, for all Western. Russia is geographically extremely hard to defend, Russia is very vulnerable. So if you believe your neighbours to be after you, than yes the current situation is scary. You should compare Russia with someone with PTSD, the country essentially has flashbacks. Doesn't matter if what they believe is true or not, to them it is. This combined with the Russian mythical history that makes them believe that they are a special people that are destined for greatness, you can get these kind of things. I mean the British too still have difficulty coming to terms with their new, far diminished, role in the world.

But let's be honest here, the invasion of Iraq was not okay either man 😂😂. I didn't support that shitshow either. It's good they've withdrawn now. That said it obviously isn't a justification for the Russian invasion now.

If you don't believe it, there are enough sources about Hitler's speeches, you can easily read them and see the similarities. Than there are those sick celebrations/rallies that look like the rallies in Nuremberg in Nazi Germany. The new laws that look alot like those that Hitler introduced in Germany. And finally let's not forget the disgusting "Z" symbol, which you use yourself, which is a modern swastika. It's use and meaning are so close to the Nazi swastika that German states want to forbid it. With using this symbol, you showed everyone that you're a fascist my friend.

Russia only cares about itself and that's the reason the eastern European countries joined or want to join the EU and NATO. Besides the fact that they want to protected. Because it's a problem when there is a large nuclear power with a lunatic leader as your neighbor with nuclear weapons pointed at you when you don't have those weapons.... especially if said country has a first strike doctrine.... They don't want to be invaded by Russia who suddenly has the idea that you're a threat. Also ask Mexico if they want it, they are a sovereign nation after all. Also an autocratic ruler doesn't want a strong stable democracy on it's door nevermind a huge alliance of them.
