I am not against more European independent decision making. But I support being an equal ally to the US over China. The Americans are our friends. But nothing wrong about an increasingly independent European position

@Hiren Thanki security yeah. The fact we can have a normal live without the fear of being invaded is something I value. China and Russia don't have equal partners. They view the world in those superior and inferior to them and deal with you accordingly. This is why Russia threats all of its neighbours as its property. Russia would do all to break up the EU so it could lead Europe as the big hegemon. No thanks to that. The US, with all of it flaws, does not do that and respects our independence, even when we do things that go against their interests.

@ONeillsJimbaLounge and you'd be still British without the French. So yeah a rather dumb comment.
42
@MerryXmasMfkrs well, the Atlantic alliance has prevented war on a continent that has had its fair share of wars ))
24
Which most Europeans agree on. Personally I don't like to fight China over Taiwan for the Americans, but I do understand they're out allies and we've got to have each others backs

@Michael Garcia this is based on a meme. France is the country that has won the most battles in history and litterally fought ww1 for years when the Americans showed up. I am not a particular fan of the French, but this is rather unfair.

@Rosco1953 with that I agree. I think we should increase military spending and become a military power of our own. Although I think if we'd become as such and rival the US, it would also lead to complains from the US. But yeah obviously we need to get our own security in order. This I consider part of a more independent Europe. But this doesn't include the Ukrainian War. Which is not just a European War but an imperialist Russian war against the whole west including the US.

@Quetzalcoatl the Frankish Empire wasn't Franco-German in the modern sense though. Charlemagne was even born in modern Belgium (Liège). But obviously need both Germany and France in Europe, as well as the others. United we stand, divided we fall. It is that simple.
6
@ONeills Lounge any of my other friends? What is that supposed to mean? Personally, I have a major in history, and so do many of my friends as we all studied history, so yeah..
4
@dorfrez "how dare our allies want to make their own decisions!" That is what you say. We're your allies, not your slaves.
4
@bobgonzales9680 "Anglo-Saxons" do you live in the 11th century? There hasn't been an "Anglo-Saxon" state since 1066
3
@MetallicReg exactly. That was my point. If need be we obviously support our ally the US, but we rather not get involved in that situation.
3
"We spend alot of our tax payer money on a European War"... one that didn't exist without the Great Power games between Russia and the US. So bit of an a**hole comment.
2
@laudsrealm188 your reaction says it all. What is wrong about an independent Europe that is equal to the US? We would still be allies. Also the Ukraine war isn't our war (as in European) it is a war for Western values not just European. Russia never complained about them wanting to be a EU member, they had problems with them becoming a US ally. This besides the obvious Russian Imperialism ofcourse. This war is not a "European" war as we litterally had no part in it breaking out. The US has a bigger part in this happening than we do. Let's all support Ukraine, because it is the right thing to do and stop the bs.
2
@alfiesolomons9686 since when are we afraid of Russia? Litterallt nobody is.
2
@LAUDs Realm nobody is saying we don't want to be a US ally lol. We just want to be equals . You can make your own decisions and so can we. Friends also sometimes disagree but then still help each other. You sound exactly the same as Russians talking about Ukraine and their Westward path (I know because I often have arguments in Russian with these clowns). Your comment is imperialist. Nobody says we want to abandon you as a ally, but what you say is that we should behave like a vassal of yours.
2
@laudsrealm188 Sure... you sound like someone who can't accept allies being equal partners with their own interests as well. We're not your slaves )).
2
@robcastleton3359 and we yours. Friends can critize each other and disagree, but in the end we'll always got each others backs.
2
@oxtristynxo583 likewise 👊
2
@chickenmadness1732 Russia lover detected. Don't talk to me )).
2
@jmachorrov maybe Russia should just stop invading its neighbours?
1
@Alexandra-zp3gr exactly what he said lol
1
@VaucluseVanguard as someone from the Netherlands, what a bs lol. The reasons we don't want to get involved in Taiwan are : Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya. To name a few. Don't you agree we have been dragged into enough American wars/interventions in the past decades? As none of those were of particular European importance. That said, if war would break out, we'd have your backs. We're just a bit burned after "bringing democracy to Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya".
1
@LAUDs Realm I litterally said "not just European" as in to say it is a European war and not American is a bit false as it is for your values as well. Not just ours.
1
@MetallicReg this was what I was trying to say.
1
@Soletestament technically Taiwan still claims Mongolia among other things xD so yeah lol.
1
@æœ haha nice one 🤣 perfection has been achieved.
1
@TheDutchGhost yes I agree completely with that
1
@Truthismycause Bosnia a war started by the Serbs and Ukraine - a war started by the Russians. Yeah excellent examples.... I think most Ukrainians hate the Russians at this point. So do I since what I have seen this morning.
1
@SeeLasSee yes I'd do too )). Bit unrelated to the current subject but yes
1
@Kkaffeine atleast the US doesn't behead its prisoners of war and have people cheer for it.
1
@derekwampum8861 lol we don't have to listen to anyone )). Ironically you're just as imperialist if you believe that, as the Russians invading Ukraine. We're not your vassal state.
1
@erikschlangenauge7514 Germanic not German. The Dutch and Flemish are their descendents as they settled here.
1
@hardcore476 so you understand how I mean it. I think it would be better for our alliance too if we don't need to be babysitted.
1
@lilacer6841 are you? 🤡
1
@armandoruiz8758 US citizens are also known as Americans. Go annoy someone else as I didn't call the country America, I always call it the US. So Go bother someone else )) the adjective for things from the US is "American". So don't try to be a smartass.
1
@rb3058 lol are you playing the victim now fot ww2? You should know better.
1
@Ceroid considering your view points, trying to communicate with you is as fruitful as talking to a wall. So bother someone else. Thank you ))

@R B whilst Versaille was horendous, in particular the fact Germany was blamed for the war, most territories lost were non ethnically German ones. Sudentenland, claimed by the Germans, had never been part of the German Empire. The right of self determination also doesn't work in the sense Germany and now Russia try to apply it. For obvious reasons. Whilst Germany had valid reasons to see the treaty has harsh and unfair (albeit soft in comparison to the treaties of Trianon and Saint-Germain) the claims on Czechoslovakia and Poland weren't. A, somewhat, correct use of the right of self-determination was Austria, where a referendum was to be held to join Germany, only to be canceled by the Germans. Everything after that is imperialist.
