  1. ​@alexeyamosov664 for Ukraine that would be the Ukrainian People's Republic as well as the Cossack Hetmenate which had a democratically elected Rada. That said, Russia had a somewhat democratic tradition too. The Republic of Novgorod. But the autocratic, Mongol influenced, Moscovite state was the one that united Russia. How different could it have been if Novgorod would have been the one who united Russia?
