@lolawall3765 besides the fact that there are no written agreements about this, contrary too the treaties Russia blantely broke. The promises, if they were ever made, were made to the Soviet government, not Russia. USSR collapsed as you know, lost the cold war. There have never been promises to any Russian governments...Even so there is no proof, no treaty... people can say whatever they want... especially politicians. The agreements they actually did make, namely no NATO troops in territory that joined NATO after 1997 unless a significant change in the security situation in Europe was upheld by NATO. Russia broke this agreement with it's annexation of Crimea and instigation of armed resurgence in Donbass. Only after that NATO started deploying troops on it's eastern borders. Russian people only learn half the history and the history they learn is mystified and detached from reality.

@ЯБезымянный-о5ф it's so sad that Russians never learn to think for themselves. You're a perfect example. Nazi's? Ukraine's far right parties have 0 seats in the rada🤦♂️. Ukraine in 2014 only wanted to be more connected with Europe. Pro European didn't mean anti Russian. The anti-Russian sentiment in Ukraine is the cause of your governments actions against them.... what do you expect? Ukraine chose to have a future in Europe, they have this right. Their NATO wish only came after Russia broke the Budapest memorandum. Stop twisting history. Russia is the aggressor for 8 years now against a people they used to call their brothers.... congratulations, you managed to get a people that has been close to you for centuries, to hate you

@ЯБезымянный-о5ф lol do Russians actually learn history? The reason why the treaty was signed was because Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan suddenly found themselves with nuclear weapons. The codes of these weapons were in the hands of the Russians though. Belarus en Kazakhstan quite quickly agreed to give up their nuclear weapons. The Ukrainians were not. Ukraine suddenly was the third largest nuclear power on earth. Russia wanted these weapons back obviously. Had Ukraine not agreed, this could have very likely caused a war between Ukraine and Russia as Russia would have never accepted Ukraine as such a large nuclear power on it's border. So the Bundapest Memorandum was signed which gave the nuclear weapons of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine to Russia. It also made Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus non nuclear states. Both of these things in exchange of guarantees. Belarus just ended it's non nuclear status in a "referendum" essentially under Russian pressure and Russia itself broke the memorandum in regards to Ukraine with the annexation of Crimea.

@leifolsen6709 I didn't say they would, I said that it was what Ukraine wanted. Besides you never know... other countries with the same problems did join the EU. Neither of us can look into the future. Only time will tell what happens.
