Being in the EU doesn't equate having lost independence... seems to be a thing in the British mindset (not meant to offend you btw). Yeah you give away some of your sovereignty but the alternative in Europe, which we have seen countless times in the past, is much much worse. And for us in the continent that actually often did mean losing our independence to larger powers.

@user-mk4lj1zr4w yeah I realized this. This why I mentioned that it is different for us on the continent itself. My country in located between France, Germany and the UK and we often end up being collateral in their conflicts. The same can be said about central and eastern Europe with conflicts between Russia and Germany and the Balkans in the past between great powers there too. The EU has brought stability in the balkans and it stops the major powers from fighting and dragging the nations in between them, with them. In the past 200 years my country has been invaded by the British (albeit they had the goal to defeat Napoleon and we were a French puppet), France (which would eventually annex us) and Germany. Gotta say that I am quite happy that Germany and France are now allies and that I don't have to worry about being invaded with the nearest threat being Russia. For people on the UK ,with the last invasion being the glorious revolution I believe, this must ofcourse feel completely different. Especially considering they still have difficulties finding their new role in the world after the end of the British Empire.
