I would really LOVE if you made a video with your perspective on what it as a minimum will take for Ukraine to reach the goal of taking Crimea. Can it be done without adding more sophisticated weapon platforms to what they're currently receiving? I'm especially thinking of the arm I see as currently lacking striking power, so the ability to gain better control over their own airspace, and the needed range into hostile territory to make significant strategic advances! So is it about time to get them better multirole fighter jets and attack helicopters? (And of course, more Leopards and Air Defence systems...)

Then it's lucky for Ukraine that the 24 European countries that have a large munitions industry has all agreed to upscale production significantly - and that it's able to fill the roles of logistics with people to old to be involved in fighting - just as Ukraine is also training a significant number of women! Yeah, I know, wild right - that women can fly a drone and shoot a rifle - who knew... (Yes, that was sarcasm - women can be formidable soldiers)

No, it can also be self inflicted, friendly fire, etc. - Wounded in this context is something that incapacitate a soldier from fighting for a prolonged time.

It's not just ChVK Vagnera who just leave their wounded behind, the regular Russian army do it as well. Just like there's the occasional prisoner swap, same happens to recovered bodies...

No, because the only thing Ukraine is focused on in Bakhmut is Russia losing manpower in their attempt to conquer it. If Bakhmut falls, it's a shame, but won't impact Ukraine significantly as it has no strategic importance. They will instead focus on the Summer Offensive ...

@kilowhiskeyalpha6078 It's war of attrition - as long as the casualties on the Russian side is significantly higher than on the Ukrainian side, then it's worth holding on to. Should Ukraine succeed in holding parts of Bakhmut, then it's just a bonus.

@johntwelve8763 I fully agree that it's possible that there is some validity - but it's extremely hard to verify - but even if there is validity - it's not something that can't be replaced with more efficient equipment from countries like Germany. The latest I've heard is that Germany is stepping up their support - even expressing that they're sorry that they've been a bit slow to act. But it's still an interesting point you bring up...

@57thorns Exactly, and it's so hard to verify - but OP/John has a point, that if we look at the earliest versions with lower numbers, it's still a relatively high number of units. Of course we know both sides have a high focus on targeting air-defence units. But hey, just more reason for the rest of us to start focusing on the need for more equipment - and what can be done to take out more Russian Air-defence units...

@johntwelve8763 A couple of weeks ago the 24 European countries who have considerable munition industry, made a deal with the industry and the EU/EDA, about upscaling production significantly, so I'm not so sure resupplying ammunition will continue to be an issue. Earlier this week I read the report that the two Ukrainian pilots who had been send to the US, (as I recall it, it was Luke Air Force Base in Arizona), to be tested in regards to re-training for the F16 passed with flying colors and the US expect it can re-train Ukrainian pilots far faster than first estimated. But of course, this could still mean that even if Ukraine start sending pilots to be retrained for the F16 - then due to the political process before it's even decided if they will get them, it could easily be winter again before it happens ..

@pansepot1490 Well, I definitely respect Perun's opinion, but I would still love hearing Anders Puck Nielsen's take on it. So I just hope that I wrote my question early enough for him to read it. The comment section on his videos are quick to reach high numbers and drown out the chance of him reading it. Of course there's also the chance that he just won't bother with these kinds of more speculative assessments - and will wait until decisions has been made. I guess there's also some limitations on what he can opinionate on, due to his work. He has to strike a balance between doing these videos as a civilian/private person, being a public figure representing the Royal Danish Defense College, being used in the press as an expert, and the work he does as an Analyst at the at the Institute for Military Operations.

@saumyacow4435 Yes, but as I see it, taking the combined Arms perspective into account - my concern is that Ukraine is still lacking an Arm to have the full spectrum approach I personally believe is needed. But that's just my opinion - and of course I would love to hear Anders Puck Nielsen's take on this. I know there is others who also has opinionated on this topic - and it's not that I don't respect their opinions or anything like that - I just wanna hear his, because he's proven himself quite capable of predicting how various situations would unfold. Heck, everyone who can make a sound argument on this is very welcome to do so, as it's always interesting to hear what arguments people present - but I must confess that I probably value getting Nielsen's perspective slightly higher. (It's quite possibly that I, as a Dane, is a bit biased)

@ArchOfficial Your take on this is welcome as well. Maybe the way I framed the question makes it harder to answer, but it's especially the need for stronger capability in regards to controlling the airspace I'm interested in. But of course your perspective is still welcome. Personally I don't think we're going to see a serious attempt of a counteroffensive until late May, maybe even June - and the reason has to do with the time it takes "refurbishing" all the older and lighter Leopard 1 Ukraine has been promised. As far as I counted, Ukraine has only recieved enough Leopard 2 for up to two Combined Arms/Armored Battalions - of course also depending on how they encadrer their units, (will they focus on having more Armored Infantry/Mechanized Infantry Battalions with a single Armored Company or will they focus on having Armored Battalion with a single Armored/Mechanized Infantry Company - or exactly how are they going to utilize the recieved equipment. Will they have a "heavy" Armored Battalion, or will they combine the types so they have a battalion with a "heavy" armored company, and a lighter, (Leopard 1), company - and then Armored/Mechanized Infantry - or what? But the fact is, they haven't yet received all the Leopard 2 - there's still a lot of Leopard 1 being overhauled and being prepared to be send to Ukraine. So how much of it are they going to wait for before starting the Spring/Summer offensive.... I hope we're sion going to see multirole fighter jets being send to Ukraine - I know that a couple of Ukrainian pilots just got tested in the US and passed with flying colors and it's estimated that they can be retrained to the F16 fairly quick... And then there's the question of CAS - of course a Multirole Jet can provide some CAS, but there is in my opinion no doubt that smaller attack helicopters that can operate in ways a jet isn't capable of, has far more importance...

And the fact that they haven't yet received all the promised tanks etc. - Some of it is still on its way, and some of the lighter and older tanks, like the Leopard 1, are receiving an overhaul before being transported to Ukraine. So it will probably end up being in June...

Ukraine has tens of thousands soldiers currently undergoing military training in Europe, and a lot of the defensive tasks and Logistics are handled by older people. Also, Ukraine also have female soldiers taking part in the war/currently undergoing training...
