I mean it most likely present sum of some large scale confrontations of the bronze age between some group (large grouping) of Mycenans and renegade splinter faction of the Hittites(So called Assuwa confederation under ruler "Piyama-Raddu". Apparently very troublesome fellow). Sometimes the Greeks are not even thought as enemies of that confederation but either allies or hegemons against the Hittites. Certainly does not present historical event as such. Or atleast events that are presented in it had not happened exactly as spelled by Homer.
