They lost their best piece on a chessboard the one that could realy hurt Russia if it was fully operational and they have got two nordic parodies of a states that are worse in anything but economy (and even here differences are not noticeable) than their ukr.state. What is more they are basicaly "dead ends" they can't attack Russia officialy from there because as you had said ("nuclear arsenal capable to wipe out humanity 20 times") so they hoped for ukr.state and before that they attempted to turn state of Kazakhstan into kaz.state to attack Russia with "nato capable forcess" while not officialy joining into war. They can't do that with Sweden or Finland because both states even before natoisation were firmly alligned with the west. After ukr.state they would put their money on middle east or in Europe but for that they would have to "officialy banish" several middle european states from nato to create bigger ukr.state.
