I am not talking about sharing parts, i am talking about it being more or less the same car. In my example, the 4 series, is a coupe version of the 3 series. It doesnt share parts with it, it is it, just a bit different. This Volvo coupe doesnt share parts with the other volvos, it is one of them, just with another badge. Another example would be the Maybach cars that Mercerdes was trying to push a decade ago. They were reskinned S Classes, whereas the Rolls arent reskinned 7 series. Yeah the frame is the same, but everything else isnt. A rolls looks, feels and drives completely different to a 7 series. Seeing it you cant mix it up with a 7. On the contrary, the Maybachs could easily be mistaken for S Classes, and that's why nobody bought into Mercedes' marketing.
Similarly, you cant mistake a Bentley with a VW Phaeton or Audi A8 despite their underpinnings. If Volvo wants to create a new brand, then it has to look different. Not just change the badge.
DO YOU GET IT NOW?
