I'm American and have lived in Vietnam for the past 3 years. Here are some observations that may help people decide if there are significant differences between Vietnam and China. 1) President Trump is universally popular here. In fact, the only people I ever met in Vietnam who didn't like Trump were other Americans. 2) There are Black Friday sales on the day after Thanksgiving in every mall and shopping plaza in Hanoi as enormous Christmas trees go up and Santa Clause, snowmen and smaller Christmas trees appear in every coffee shop, restaurant hotel lobby , and karaoke bar throughout the city. 3) English is a mandatory subject in all public schools and there is a huge private education industry as well which is predominantly focused on teaching English. Nobody here is studying Chinese. 4) There are few security cameras and nobody seems to have any interest in tracking or following me. In fact, the government does not appear to be interested in anything people are doing. It is a very free ( some would say lawless) society. I often liken it to the Wild West except, instead of guns and horses, everyone has cell phones and motorbikes. 6) If someone needs help, such as an accident or medical emergency, the people here are eager to offer any assistance they can rather than ignoring them. 7) Vietnam has decided to live with COVID rather than continue strict lockdowns. All travel restrictions have been lifted and everything has re-opened and the government has stopped tracking cases. 8) There are few benefits to joining the Communist Party in Vietnam. I have only met one person who was a party member and I know of 2 people (one business collogue and my mother in law) who were asked to join the party but declined.

And still, Wall Street is telling the American people to invest more money in China. Lei, I hope your videos help the American people realize they have been deceived before they lose any more of their hard earned money. Thank you!

As with all heavy drinkers, someone needs to take Xi Jingping's keys away from him so he doesn't cause any accidents that will hurt people.
39
Great Video, Lei. Nobody has done a better job of explaining this unholy alliance between corporate greed and authoritarian rule.
38
Wonderful story. People like thís man are what makes America great.
29
I hope other American business learn a lesson from Boeing's China mistake.
27
The scenes of Ukrainians stopping Russian tanks reminds me of Trenaman Square in 1989. What happened to all the brave people in China?
25
Excellent video, Lei. I'm glad you enjoyed your time here in Vietnam.
19
Thank you, Lei. Very insightful.
15
Very interesting perspective. Thank you, lei.

@johnmonk3381 I'm not defending Vietnam, I'm merely offering my personal observations after living here for three years. Believe me, if I saw the same things happening here in Vietnam that have happened in China, I would take my family and leave in a heartbeat. I'm not being biased, I just want what's best for me and my family and right now, I feel that I have more freedom and opportunity here in Vietnam than I did when I was living in America. Also, If you are asking me to believe Wikipedia or my own eyes, I'm going with my own eyes.

Thank you Lei. Very insightful and informative video.

Thank you for providing such great insight to a topic that is often ignored in the US.

Lei, people should earn college credits for watching your videos. Very informative and insightful.

@astrahcat1212 Wall Street always tells people to do what's best for them (Wall Street).
8
Thank you for providing this compelling perspective on East Asian history.
8
Do you think Chinese media, such as the Global Times, gives a balanced approach to reporting the news?
8
Neither Christians nor any other religion is persecuted in Vietnam.
7
Great series! Thank you.
7
Thank you, lei.

@AndyKing1000 Thank you.

Please explain what happened to the chained woman. Where is she now? What happened to the man who chained her and held her prisoner? Here's your chance to enlighten us. Don't blow it.

@drumpfdon760 For your information, I have been the victim of several crimes here in Vietnam. I dealt with it the way Americans deal with criminals. Now I'm married and my family looks out for me. I will say that Vietnam is a much safer place than America.
6
Allow me to answer, if I may. After living in Vietnam for the past 3 years I wouldn't call it Communist at all. Vietnam has evolved into a hybrid system in which the Communist Party controls the government but the people and the economy are free to do whatever they want. Singapore is a much better comparison than China.
6
Great job, Lei. Thank you.

@jpjay1584 Boeing's experience with China clearly demonstrates what happens when a company does business with scoundrels. Regardless of whether or no Boeing has learned that lesson, what happened to them serves a a warning for other American companies.
5
Thank you, Lei. Great report!

Since Deng was such a pal of yours perhaps he told you the true number of Chinese citizens who died in his massacre at Tienenmien Square in 1989. If so please share it wih us.
5
Ultimately, you may be right. However, I moved to Vietnam 3 years ago from America and I can honestly say I feel I have more freedom now than I did living in America.
5
Thank you for another insightful and informative video.

@drumpfdon760 Name 1 "lie' in this video.
5
@MitsukiHashiba You're correct. There are no lies in this video. Even if there were, this clown does not have the courage to point them out.
5
What is Putin's reason for invading Ukraine?
5
@kevtherev8194 Great. Now explain why China invaded Vietnam in 1979.
5
@johnmonk3381 This doesn't have to go nowhere. We could have a meaningful discussion if you are willing to open your mind and learn something. You seem to have given up on life. I find that very sad.
5
@zhongxingjin846 So, what you are saying is China has finally decided to invest in R&D to develop their technologies because they can no longer steel them from America. Also, what if a particular foreign product is better than the comparable Chinese version. Will you still buy the Chinese product? Also, are you and the "90% of Chinese people" eager for more "opportunities" for "domestic investment" as the U.S. considers more sanctions against China?

@kcharles8857 I have no voice in America anymore. My Facebook account was shutdown because the Thought Police didn't like what I had to say about BLM. My congressman ignores me. Both of my senators ignore me. I can't vote because voting from abroad is an endless bureaucratic quagmire and I was constantly being blamed for every crime ever committed in the history America because of my "White Male Privilege". I love Vietnam the way it is now but I have more faith in the future or America as I see things are starting to improve there.

@drumpfdon760 Why don't YOU disappear!
4
@drumpfdon760 Did she say something that was inaccurate? If so, what was it?
4
Great video! I love facts and you have lots of them. Keep up the good work.
4
@drumpfdon760 The only thing people are questioning is you sanity.
4
Thank you for your comment. These CCP trolls are annoying but they do generate activity that boosts the algorithms of the channel which will help spread it to new viewers.
4
@drumpfdon760 "Robbers and murderers" Great description of the CCP.
4
Excellent analysis of Vietnam. You've obviously lived here for a while.
4
@drumpfdon760 I have talked to people who lost family members in the American war. They haven't forgotten but they HAVE forgiven. Another big difference between Vietnam and China.
4
@drumpfdon760 yah, really. The Vietnamese are a strong and noble people. The Han are not.
4
@mimih8902 I've lived in Vietnam for the past 5 years and I can assure you that everything you said is false. i suspect you are a Viet Kieu living in Ameica who's still fighting your father"s/grandfather's war.
3
@drumpfdon760 Everything China accomplished over the past 50 years was done with American money, and support from American business and the American government. Do you really think China is able to survive on its own?
