I grew up in a wealthy suburb of approximately 35,000 people. The vast majority of "criminals" in town were the ones created by the police. I always thought there were WAY too many police officers.

Police need to spend more time and effort catching criminals and less time trying to make criminals out of innocent people.

@coloradodrives7784 The story Steve was covering involved an entire police department that resigned to seek better options. This appears to be a trend in the US. I would argue that this is a simple case of free markets at work because there was never a strong demand for police officers in small towns. With many town budgets struggling to keep up with other expenses, they are no longer willing to pay for police officers, at least not in the numbers they currently have. Therefore, Police officers are no longer willing to work for the wages these towns are offering and they are leaving for more attractive options. A classic free market solution.
