The eviction moratorium may have been OK for a couple of months until the Government got their act together figuring out how to deal with the pandemic without leaving property owners to shoulder the cost. By the time the government got their act together, not that it actually went into practice, it was too late and the moratorium went on too long and included people who's income didn't change one bit during the pandemic. So yeah, landlords have lost their last nerve, they never signed up to house people for free or provide free water/sewer and other costs they shouldered. Now they are charging more just in case or saying, the heck with that. Were grocery stores required to provide free food? No. Gas stations to provide free gas? no. Hospitals required to provide free care? no. But for God only knows what reason, landlords were stuck with tenants who took advantage in many cases. Not ok and went on for far too long. BTW, banks weren't required to ignore homeowners who just stopped paying their mortgages as far as I know.
