Not really, putting an inexperienced crew in a brand new ship is bound to cause disaster and that's just plain ignorance, the Japanese already had vast knowledge of adequate damage control even before the war even began, all they needed to do is just wait for the crew to be fully trained before deploying the Taihō into real combat. Japanese damage control is more than decent in itself, they didn't lose ships just because they were damaged, you can watch Drach's video on Japanese damage control to further expand the case
