  1. Oh, I don't like Gene Hackman's version of Luthor. At the time, Luthor in the comics was a genius scientist and inventor whereas in Donner's Superman movies he is just a property mogul mostly played as a comedic villain, or as comic book critic Peter Sanderson puts it: "a used car salesman wielding nuclear missiles". For me, the best on-screen versions of Lex Luthor are the ones from the DCAU and Smallville.
