  1. As an Eastern European, when I learned English I also learned to speak with an English accent – in my case it was British Received Pronunciation. Obviously I still have a slight Eastern European accent but this is disappearing more and more as I live in the UK and speak the language daily. If I can physically do it, I don't understand why I would want to speak in a thick EE accent instead of a proper English accent. The accent is also part of the language, not just the written words.
