@Analyzing Male Slavery Eh, it doesn't help anyone if we call them selfish and stupid, they won't listen to us more if we dot that.

Unfortunately, I've met way too many people (somewhat well educated too) who just don't believe climate change is happening or that human actions have been in any way responsible for it. A guy at work even referred to it as "a liberal hoax". Before we can even get to discuss strategies about how to solve the issues of climate change, we should first at least agree that it's happening, and when the overwhelming majority of climate scientists agree this is happening, I just don't know what to say anymore to those denying it.

@Thedamped Agreed. It's disheartening really, because once you realize that someone just doesn't accept the findings of science, you realize that they are lacking way more in education than you could possibly help with. For me, learning about the philosophy of science and the reasons behind the various scientific research methods was a process of many years in high-school, university and grad school. To suddenly meet someone who has not been educated and also is convinced that they don't need that knowledge in order to be totally confident in their opinions on science... that's a total show stopper for me.

@Thedamped You make great points about early education. My early school was in Romania, including my B.Sc., and then I did a M.Sc. at a university in Denmark. Unfortunately Romanian school focuses a lot on memorization, but I was lucky to have at least some teachers who pushed for learning by experimentation. But the grad studies I took in Denmark were at a whole other level - we had classes dedicated to "The Philosophy of Science" and "Research Methods", and a great focus in all our academic papers throughout the 2 years was on the methods. The methods had to be well chosen, well explained, and also you had to explain the limitations of your work as well as any potential biases that could creep in.
