If implementing a UBI included permanently removing all other social spending, I might favor giving it a shot.

I support public schools having a full gas mask mandate - this way people leave in droves. The more kids leaving the public schools, the better.
34
@izdatsumcp Shoo, troll.
22
Indeed, this video was ridiculous.
21
He was from a "marginalized background himself"? Oh good lord. 🤮🤮🤮
20
"Kids are resilient" - anyone who says that has no business making public policy. Kids are resilient? Try telling a kid he doesn't get a lollipop.
15
This is the least self-aware video Reason has ever produced. They defend a Supreme Court decision as good legislation - federal legislation, no less. What?! And then justify it with a strawman argument about political strife. Absurd.

Sex work is incredibly depressing. Someone with a family and a meaningful life who is scraping by is far happier than a sex worker, a field in which drug abuse and self-harm is rampant, suicide is frequent, and living happily ever after virtually unheard of. Money does not equal happiness or fulfillment.
15
Tulsi Gabbard did an excellent job with this info during the Democrat debates
13
I'm sure FB, Twitter and the rest will soon ban him. Or not.
13
@hollyweirdland940 So you'd rather live in Cuba? What's stopping you from moving?
12
Yes, you are the most brilliant person ever, and have never been wrong. 😴😴😴
12
Sorry, as a teacher I feel compelled to note that it is not an analogy.
12
Yes, that part at the beginning where she explains that the Filipino author was "from a similarly marginalized group" (something like that) made me nauseous.
12
I think you have that "everyone knows everyone's business" thing backwards. That happens in the sticks. In the big cities, people barely know their next door neighbors.
11
If this doesn't scare the hell out of you, what does? You may or may not like the truckers, but who's next? Martin Niemöller comes to mind.
10
@iam8401 Learn basic economics
10
Reason can try to normalize folks like her, but this is one of the saddest things a person can do. Imagine this being your mom? Or grandma? She won't be young forever, but this will remain part of her all her life. And her family's as well.

Is there a law banning conservatives from watching a libertarian channel?
9
Raising taxes on businesses would reduce federal tax receipts, and would also wreck the economy, which is what has happened every single time that such tax hikes were enacted. Universal healthcare would not only cost money, it would lead to long waitlines, rationing and preventable death, as it has wherever it's been tried.
8
Is Reason unaware that correlation does not imply causation? "More immigration equals less spending" 🙄
8
Same dumb policies. Note that France, which uses nuclear power, did far better than Germany, which relies on reusables and Russia. Policy matters.
8
🤮🤮🤮🤮
8
I don't really get all this stuff, but if Elizabeth Warren is against it, I'm all for it.
8
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I am a conservative, not a libertarian. Suggesting that people use drugs is not the way to go.
8
@callidusvulpes5556 Anyone who finds Wikipedia reliable is not a serious person. Among those who understand that Wikipedia is entirely unreliable is...Wikipedia, which says so openly.
7
Liechtenstein: 61.5 sq miles, 39k people. Brooklyn (one of NYC's five boroughs): 69.5 sq miles, 2.6m people.
7
@JesseLH88 I'm not a fan of Ramaswamy, but Gillespie did a terrible job here. This was an unfair hatchet job.
6
@YashArya01 Libertarians are constitutionalists who point out that the US government was never supposed to be involved with wealth redistribution, which has been both anti-Constitutional and a proven failure. I have major disagreements with the Libertarians on other issues, but they are absolutely correct regarding their opposition to out-of-control spending and government-based social programs.
6
It's five years later. I'd like to think many of those students are mortified watching this video today.
6
Anyone who talks about "price gouging" should take a lesson in basic economics. Price gouging is impossible in a free market.
6
@camadams9149 You're quick with grade school insults, but those are a lousy substitute for facts. If you only get your information from far-left sources, you are bound to believe the nonsense that you are spouting. Again, universal healthcare is an abject failure. Other countries are able to maintain those systems because a)the US heavily subsidizes their healthcare, and b)they limit their medical care, which leads to outrageously long wait times and a significant number of avoidable deaths. Now if you are interested in educating yourself, I can help point to toward some factual resources. If you prefer to avoid the facts and instead prefer hurling childish insults while wallowing in ignorance, then I can't help you. Nobody can.

@edd542 I think Cam Adams has made it rather clear that he is uninterested in "the free and open exchange of ideas and of opinions", to quote the late Bob Grant. There's plenty here for him to digest should he have any interest in learning, but don't hold your breath. I do appreciate your earnest attempts though. I do have higher hopes for the other respondent in this thread, Annathema Anderson.

@WasFakestCenturyAesthetics Conspiracy theorists are mental midgets
5
@10speed4 Candace Owens made an interesting case last night on Tucker Carlson's show, saying that Democrats are targeting Tx, Va, and Tn with massive illegal immigration in order to turn them blue. According to Candace, illegals waltz into California and are then literally driven to those three states. Once they marry an American, they become legal and get to vote.
5
@wertywerrtyson5529 They are all on drugs and utterly miserable. None of them actually accumulates wealth; their drug use increases as they try to escape their depressing existence, and their addictions worsen. Emotionally they are basket cases. When they age out, they have no money, no skills, no familial relationship, no dating prospects, and are addicted to drugs. This will not end well for her, just as it ends poorly for everyone else. She puts on a brave face here, but her life is on a fast track to nowhere. And to think that she is the best that Reason could come up with.
5
I wish the Trump cultists would learn to understand the importance of free trade
5
He was okay, she was hysterical. Her argument was almost entirely against the efficacy of the vax, not the libertarian notion of mandates. And her "statistics" were total BS.
5
@blonze_brick That doesn't make it remotely reliable. You think they represent the sources accurately? And how about the many sources that are left out?
4
@blonze_brick My best guess would be that Wikipedia has the false veneer of being centrist and is relevant to all topics, not just scientific ones. As to the so-called "concensus", that is largely manufactured by the mainstream media, as John Stossel and numerous others have explained.
4
@aguyyouneverknew The Israeli Daycare story was not a government program, but a psychological test done by researchers to gauge the result! Freakonomics has the story. Reason has run out of ideas here.
4
Yes, the IOC is corrupt. And I couldn't care less about the Olympics - only women watch. But this video is pretty stupid.
4
Then why don't they charge $10/gallon? Learn basic economics, really.
4
The US is a democracy
4
I'd rather those teachers stay out of work, actually.
4
There is something about Nick that I don't trust. He reinforced that when he gave a kissy-face interview to some Biden-supporting, CRT theory-spouting, alleged libertarian. FFS.
4
@DCBChump Um, yeah he was. 450,000 dead in the US, 2.25m worldwide. And climbing every minute.
4
Got to keep it moving. Andrew got in all of his relevant thoughts.
4
They're still using ethanol gas, aren't they?
3
@brandenpierce2223 Thank you. If Iowa didn't have their caucus at the beginning, we'd have never started with ethanol. What a mess.
