  1. Unfortunately, the stupid wing of the Republican Party has been strong the last seven years, as the GOP, formerly a bastion of free-traders, is now split on the issue. The notion that free trade hurts the US is believed only by the ignorant. Ironically, Trump himself is somewhere in the middle on the issue, even as his most ardent supporters sound like Bernie Sanders.
