In the original broadcast, not only was the chant not censored, the reporter actually paused the interview so the chant could be heard more clearly. As you correctly point out, the network would have cut away immediately had they known that the "f" word could be heard on air, which exposes them to FCC fines.

That alone tells the story. As it is, the context suggests "Let's Go Brandon" far more than it does an unrelated political chant. Let me further note that I played the tape for my wife, who I asked me "what are they saying?", and my wife was listening, not trying to conduct an interview. Crowd chants are frequently difficult to understand unless one already knows what they are saying. Lastly, she would have known that the actual chant would have become quickly known in the age of the viral video.
