@trentk268 Sorry, but Obama is not the worst president ever. Carter is certainly "ahead" of him, and numerous others are in the running as well. Think Pierce, Johnson, Wilson, and LBJ, all of whom are in the conversation.

Real hard hitting piece there, CBS. 🤮

The Da Vinci code contains much BS. Dan Brown is way too full of himself.

I'm not a Trump fan, but he is hardly the worst president ever. As to Harding, he should be listed among the better ones. And Buchanan was not nearly as bad as they make him out to be.

@lf1496 Your Dred Scott "history lesson" is full of mistakes. Leave such things for those who deal in facts.

It was wrong when they wrote it
2
@jamesec1949 It probably was made up by snooty historians, many of whom are biased and engage in groupthink. The list is awful.

@charlies.5777 Coolidge was an excellent president

@charlies.5777 Let me guess: Your professor in a member of the left? 😊
1
@charlies.5777 What does your history professor have to do with your economics degree?
1
@uriahheep5665 You guessed wrong

@charlies.5777 👍

Because it is simply untrue.

That wife they show lovingly hanging on to Dan? They divorced shortly thereafter, and she sued him for being a serial cheater, hiding assets, and stealing her money.
1
Buchanan was not as bad as they make him out to be. Several were worse.
1
The only problem with that narrative is that it is simply untrue. But you are correct that historians act as if it were true, which is why they dump all over Buchanan. Nice story, but not factual.

I'm middle aged. Never heard of this guy.
1
@Latrine1999 And they had FDR at #3! And Harding near the bottom! What a joke.
1
@Uncreativename 1 One of the better presidents, actually. He left the economy alone, enabling a quick rebound. The fact that he spent his time gambling and cheating on his wife? Set that part aside.
1
@Uncreativename 1 Like Grant, Harding employed some crooks who took advantage. Neither Harding nor Grant were involved in all that. Ultimately, the US did well under Harding and Coolidge.
1
@Uncreativename 1 Grant stood tall for the rights of blacks and Native Americans. As to Harding, he wasn't a good man, but his policies helped the US for the brief time he was in office. If you want to get more murky, look at Polk. The war over which he presided was of exceedingly dubious morality, but helped the US grow by leaps and bounds. The Polk question is a better one, because it was the exact same policies that are hard to defend which also helped develop this country. In Harding's case, it is easier to separate his personal failings from the job he did as president, which was very solid. No one is putting Harding on Mt. Rushmore. But any list which has him close to the bottom is ridiculous. The same list has Wilson and FDR near the top, which tells you how biased it is.
1
@Uncreativename 1 As to not stating his opinion on things? That was hardly unusual back in the day. Zachary Taylor, to pick one example, never stated his opinion on anything, and he was hardly the only one. But since I mentioned him, I would challenge anyone to defend any list of presidents which lists Taylor above Harding. I would happily debate anyone trying to explain that one.
1
@novicebb I would rate Hoover and Johnson as worse than Buchanan, but there are numerous other candidates as well: Pierce (a real doughface, as opposed to Buchanan), Wilson, LBJ, Carter, and Obama.
1
@conorcane1211 Obama might be one of the few presidents worse than Buchanan, actually.
1
@conorcane1211 First of all, that is simply untrue; No one has Obama in the top twelve. Secondly, it wouldn't matter even if it they did, because far too many academics are voting based upon ideology.
1
@conorcane1211 If your point is that your mind is completely closed, fear not - you have demonstrated that point clearly.
1
Buchanan was absolutely NOT the worst president ever; I think it is ludicrous to claim so. Bad? No question. Worst ever? I could name several who were worse, including his predecessor, Franklin Pierce. The list they showed was absurd. For example, they had Warren Harding third worst; he is probably around #10.
1
Btw, they listed FDR second and Woodrow Wilson seventh. FDR was lousy, and Woodrow Wilson a disaster.
