As it happens, Gary Hart did NOT have an affair with Donna Rice. He posed for a picture on a ship called the "Monkey Business" - ouch - with her on his lap, and everyone assumed he'd been cheating with her. He dropped out of the race, only to rejoin it a few months later. But it eventually came out that the whole picture was a setup. Some reporter at some Miami newspaper wanted to get a scoop, and so he set the whole thing up. Hart had a long-standing reputation as a skirt chaser, and had also separated from his wife, Lee, on multiple occasions prior before reconciling. Hart, of course, wasn't too sharp in going along with having his picture taken with Donna Rice on his lap. But he never actually did anything with her.

 @blaqueathena No one ever called the tan suit a "scandal". They just said that it looked pretty dumb.

@heidiheaux7007 Dean's lost in the 2004 primaries was not because of his "I Have A Scream" speech. That was the cherry on top, but he'd already crashed and burned. His campaign was over when he got wrecked in Iowa.

 @EleshNorn-ui1eg Whitewater was a serious scandal which was largely papered over. Bill and Hillary stole hundreds of thousands of dollars, and used the government to help them do it.

@jamesNKYI3806 Carter's killer rabbit was a problem because ol' Jimmy liked to pretend that he was one of the regular people, and went on a whitewater raft vacation just like regular folk. Then the Secret Service came barreling in because of the rabbit, and it exposed Carter as a phony.
