  8. Love you B, but I disagree with you somewhat. Both alimony and child support should be unrelated to how much dad is making. We have incentivized very bad behavior - from skanks who follow around sports stars when the skanks know that they are ovulating, to husbands knocking off wives rather than pay up. Once a marriage is over, the wife has no claim to the husband's quality of life standards.

If you'll bear with me, I'd like to mention a debate that the Tannaic sages had in Chapters of the Fathers (aka Ethics of the Fathers): "He (Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai) said to them (his students): 'Go out and discern which is the proper way to which a man should cling.' In short, a good heart is the most important trait for a person to have. Each of you has shown that above and beyond all else, you have a good heart. God bless you for that.

And then after two terms, his VP ran and won. Even twelve years after Reagan first became president and a Democrat was elected, Reagan's revolutionary changes were already part of the country, and not easily reversed. And then there was Trump, who acted so childishly that he lost re-election, and therefore had his work undone in a very short time period. How does that help? The idea is NOT to make 60% of the country hate you. Reagan was very popular while he implemented what was known as the Reagan Revolution, which gave staying power to Reagan's policies. If you pick fights with friends and foes until everyone gets sick of you? That is not what we need and not what we're looking for.
