  1. The Lincoln quote is thought to be apocryphal. But the idea is accurate no matter what. That said, do NOT underestimate the likes of Sherman and Sheridan in winning the war.

  3.  @swirvinbirds1971  Gutzon Borglum, the same guy who did Mount Rushmore and the famed statue of Union General Philip Sheridan in Chicago, also was responsible for some of the monuments in the South to the Confederate generals. Both sides hired him. It was many years after the war, you know. Not too many statues went up on either side in the first few decades after the war ended. The first one was pbly in the 1890s.

  4. I was waiting for Philip Sheridan's name to come up; took until halfway through the video. It was Sheridan in his porkpie hat who harassed Lee's Army of Northern Virginia in the weeks leading up to the surrender at Appomattox. Underrated general.
