No one will ever compare me to the late, great Jaime Escalante, but we do have two things in common: I demand that my students both learn and behave, and I have been let go from schools for precisely that reason. Where schools have let me institute standards, I have had students flourish. But accepting mediocrity is easier for many principals and parents.
