Not an answer. You need a wide field of potential purchasers. Under the best of circumstances, fewer house seekers will see the house. Worse than that, realtors are known to blacklist properties which are not listed with one of their own. Either way, "FSBO" is usually a money loser.

@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley It is absolutely allowed in the US. But you know what? Getting rid of it would make no difference, as the whole industry has plenty of corrupt actors anyway. The plan: 1. Get yourself an honest realtor 2. Read Freakonomics

Realty has its crooked actors, as readers of Freakonomics would know. I truly doubt, though, that politicians, lawyers and realtors are statistically more corrupt than the population at large. Some people will always take ethical shortcuts whenever they can, no matter what they do for a living. Personally speaking, I report cash earnings to the IRS. Do you?

Do you really believe that ending the practice would make a big difference? Go read Freakonomics - it will open your eyes. There are certainly honest realtors out there, but those who cut ethical corners have no lack of methods to do so.

@Spitamen It is because of excellent comments lime yours that I still read YT comments, despite a high percentage being of no use. Thank you for writing yours.

Sorry to tell you, folks, but ending the practice will change nothing. The field of realty is so corrupt, as Freakonomics readers would know, that eliminating one ethical shortcut won't mean a thing. Find yourself an ethical realtor instead; they exist.
