@mpetersen6 Umm, YouTube videos reach our homes VIA the Internet, so you've got that bass akwards, from the start.
YouTube shares advertising income with their 'content' publishers. Therefore, videos of 'stupid stuff' is a lucrative source of income for many, especially the hundreds of foreign channels, who use cheap DVRs to plagiarize MSM news broadcasts. You think that you're watching CNN? Check out the publisher's channel. Surprise! It's some kid in Cambodia (or anywhere else in the world) stealing the advertising income from a dozen different legitimate news outlets.
It's all about supply and demand. Insufficient demand results in YT defunding the channel. The better the title's click-bait the more suckers watch and the more money made.
While the original MSM content creators are congratulating themselves after their broadcast, the foreign impostors have already attracted thousands of views, which elevate them in the YT algorithms, placing them at the top of your home page.
IOW, if you snooze, you lose. Nowadays, hard work is for fools.
