Many modern memorials are too abstract, but I two giant holes in the ground is pretty literal to me.

Nuclear power plants have shown to be some of the most resilient power sources we have. During Harvy, the nuclear plant down in Huston was supplying power to critical infrastructure like hospitals while the other plants were shut down. Even the reactor failure at the Daiichi plant in Fukushima could have easily been prevented by leaving the reactors on so them could power their cooling systems.

Or talking loudly on the phone.

That’s because the NYC hasn’t been keeping up the system or expanding it.

You should brush up your Greek history. Alexander the Great conquered everything between the balkans and India.

As for power generation, build nuclear. Nuclear plants have been hit by major storms dozens of times with nothing happening, and is often the only power source for vital infrastructure like hospitals.

It’s not weather; it’s climate. The climate is the average of weather over time. While figuring out what’s going to happen on any given day is difficult, knowing what the average of an area isn’t that hard.

Arcologies are just cities that are self sufficient. Simcity popularized it as a city within a single structure. With developments in technology, I think most cities self sufficient in most things by the end of the century. In the single building sense I can see it on the moon and Mars

Good city planning can mitigate or completely prevent those problems.

Yes, everyone after the age of 5 knows it costs money to operate a transit system. People, also, understand that free means free to use.

If collective ownership was more efficient, the every communist country should be/have been rich.

I love history, and the 20th century is filled with the corpses created Marx’s thinking. I, also, enjoy how you think irrelevant information proves your point. You do understand there are privately owned rail/bus lines, and in the not distant future we might be able to build fleets of self driving cars that are publicly owned and shared.
2
It reduces traffic in the city. Some cities are constantly having to expand the roads to. Less traffic also reduces smog and other air pollution. It also gets more people into the city center, so people are buying stuff and doing other things that generate economic activity, which means more money for the city.
2
If something is bad enough to take out a nuclear power plant, you’ve got bigger problems than the reactors.
2
It reduces road up keep/expansion costs, and can improve the economic activity in the city. Also, a lot of money problems are more about corruption and other forms of mismanagement.

@karatos you’re making several mistakes. 1) You’re talking about now. I’m talking about the future. 2) You’re acting like all of NYC is downtown Manhattan. The outer burrows aren’t nearly as expensive, and there’s a surprising amount warehouse space available. Also, wheat and other grains are the absolute worst crops to grow in a vertical farm. Leafy greens other crops like tomatoes are much better suited to vertical farming and in some cities they’re already cost competitive. 3) I’m under no delusion that we’re going to have semiconductor fabs in every city. However, with the break down in international trade that’s already happening and improvements in manufacturing technology and energy are going to drive greater localization

Yes, we can just build sea ports inland away from the water.

Bypassing major obstacles like a river isn’t something I would put the word only in front of.

Harvey, it takes an average of 5-8 years to build a nuclear power plant. Outside of a few cases where the plant has had some unforeseen problem, any delay is from deliberate obstruction from nimbyism and anti-nuclear activists, who are often funded by fossil fuel companies. Nuclear power plants may cost more to run per plant, but they produce more power than several solar plants. Also, when things like battery storage is taken into account, the cost per unit of electricity is lower for nuclear.
1
Harvey, learn to read. I already explained that the 5-8 years is for the actual building of the plant. NIMBYism and anti-nuclear activists can drag out the planning and other pre-building stages but that’s not the actual building. Again, when you add in things like battery storage or having to build multiple plants, the cost is higher. The numbers that show a lower cost like to just count the cost of building plant.
1
Harvey, I wouldn’t have been hostile if you showed that you had read my reply. All you did was reiterate what you wrote without addressing any of my points. People being obstructionist isn’t a problem with the technology. People can and have been obstructionist over everything. Would you feel that it’s proper representation of what solar or any other “renewable” could do if it was blocked by nuts at every turn?

I’m not ignoring the PR, I’m trying to fix part of it by being truthful about the time it takes to build. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy by saying it takes so long.

Unless you live in a condo, I don’t see any benefits good enough to justify an HOA.
1
I’ve had issues with the one for my condo. They require you to paint the frame of the screen on the back a particular color. It took them to months to actually tell what the color was and I was nearly fined for it. Then there was the time they tried to fine me for not paying the COA fee because the inept company they hired couldn’t keep a proper record
