  1. The English speaking world is in the middle of a ideological civil war between the Locke and Rousseau schools of liberalism. The elites have been educated in the Rousseau school, but English speaking culture is natively Lockean.

  2.  @cinderelladevil1687  Rousseau was French. French thinking is the problem. As for Austria and Italy, they’ve never been intrinsically liberal, and the American elites exporting Rousseau’s thinking isn’t helping.

  6. The builder is one of the most important archetypes in the American mythos, and the ad is calling to that archetype. By calling on this archetype they’re trying to create a unifying message. Several years back there was a show called the Men Who Built America which focused on business magnates of the late 1800s and early 1900s, one of whom was a financier.
