It makes prefect sense to include a war that became part of an even larger war as part of the larger war. The locals to that theater having a limited perspective doesn’t change that. In the US we learn about the French and Indian War, but that’s just the North American part of the Seven Years War that was fought around the world.

WW2 began when Japan attacked the US and territory of other western countries in the Pacific in 1941. Before that the wars in Europe and Asia had almost nothing connecting them.

@Southsideindy an agreement meant to stop fighting from happening, and a few border fights. Like I said, almost nothing.

@ulfgustavsson4919 I’m not saying WW2 started in 1937, but not including the fighting in China as part part of WW2 is a gross oversimplification of WW2. Wars like WW2 don’t just start; they build up over time and merge together smaller wars. The French and Indian War is the Seven Years war, but because for the Colonials the enemies were the French and native tribes that allied with them, it’s called the French and Indian War in the US. My point is that one country remembering a war differently doesn’t invalidate a larger prospective.

@ulfgustavsson4919 nope, I argue that WW2 didn’t start until 1941 with Japan’s offensive through South Asia and the Pacific.
