These generation ships are more like small nations than the kind of ship you’re thinking of.

It was only ever supposed to be some federal buildings

Fv, unless the sun explodes or something like that, humans are definitely going to be around in 1,000 years.
5
That’s a joke right?
4
They aren’t. We’re actually seeing companies move back to the US or countries like Vietnam.
3
You know this video is about geography, right?
2
And cut themselves off from the resources they need
2
Geography and culture are important.
2
Why would ally with China or Russia. Our economy is larger than Russia, and presuming that the Texas military would be a breakaway from the US military, our equipment would be better anyway. Furthermore, how would either China or Russia get equipment or anything to Texas?
2
@celdur4635 1) I didn’t say food and fertilizer from the US. I said trade under the Pax Americana. 2) you’re just wrong. No one has anywhere near the same amount of high quality farmland. Countries like China and Brazil have to use a lot more fertilizer than the US to get the same results.
2
Taiwan disagrees, and consent of the governed is what matters.
2
@jackchou9033 how many decades has he been dead now? Even KMT are the minority party in Taiwan.
2
More like a couple hundred years.
2
Fv, Syria is what most of what civilization has been like. Syria is only an outlier today because we live in the most peaceful time in human existence so far.
2
You mean if Texas was exactly like it?
2
Or people should move out and let DC turn back into a literal, rather than just figurative, swamp.
2
Because everyone needs to know about how awesome Texas.
2
We can produce gravity of 1G on the ship.
2
Because this is a poorly contrived plot to illustrate a point.
2
A generation ship would have artificial gravity by living on the inside of a spinning cylinder, and the hull would be more than thick enough to stop any harmful radiation.
2
You’re just jealous that you don’t live in a place as awesome as Texas.
1
Ironically Vague, all the people I’ve meet from outside of Texas have always mentioned how nice Texsans are.
1
Only if you’re talking about collapsing.

Uyghur

China has the largest, not most powerful, navy.
1
We’re greedy. We want all of North America
1
The US isn’t going to have a near peer after this decade.
1
@aachoocrony5754 my work is good. Most developing and developed countries are facing major demographic problems with quickly aging populations. The international trade system is collapsing as we speak. Only countries with the resources they need close by and the population to make and consume goods. The US is one of the few developed/developing with all of those, and it dwarfs the others in scale.
1
@aachoocrony5754 I do listen to plenty of other sources, and the ones with anything worth listening to generally agree with what Zeihan says. Lots of people are talking about the inevitable rise of China because they assume China is just going to keep growing. People were saying the same thing about Japan in the 80s. What they missed was Japan was on an S-curve of growth. China is clearly on an S-curve too, and their economy seems to have hit the upper plateau if not a downward trend. We’re seeing global trade breaking down right now. You can look up demographics without a problem, and Zeihan says, you don’t have an economy without people. That’s tautological. Everyone else just keeps arguing thing are just going to inexplicably stay the same without looking at other factors.
1
Those pipelines don’t provide anywhere near enough oul to supply China
1
China’s GDP is already shrinking
1
Argentina has nearly as good a geography, and their government has done everything thing they can to destroy their economy. Argentina is still a middle income country because their geography is so good even their monumental blunders can only hurt them so bad. Anywhere with a lesser advantage would be a failed state.
1
ICBMs are great for fighting the nuclear apocalypse, but for more mundane stuff like anti-pirate patrols and making sure a country doesn’t invade their neighbors, conventional militaries are important.
1
Because they didn’t have the technology to properly use the advantages.
1
Out of the successful countries and region, all but one is does a lot of overseas trade to make up for their lack of resources. That requires a certain kind of favorable geography of its own for being located on trade routes and having good ports.
1
That was actually pretty normal before WW1. The competition between the British and Russians was even called the Great Game.
1
The only time the US negotiates for peace is when the other side is giving up.
1
Greenland would be made a territory, and every citizen living there would become a citizen of the US.
1
Longest stretch of navigable river
1
The US has problems. China’s problems make what problems the US has look tiny.
1
@dranzacspartan8002 China has 350% of their GDP in debt. The US has 110%; not great but far from apocalyptic. There are 800 million Chinese who are living on little more than $1 a day. That’s incomparable to being poor in the US. China has a marry-go-round of lockdowns putting hundreds of millions of people out of work. The US is still 3 million jobs behind where we were before covid, but again incomparable to China No currency can displace the USD has the reserve currency. No country has the mix of economic size, lack of government interference and hard currency. We might see some trade blocks develop a local currency for intra-block trading, like the Euro, but inter-block trading is going to be USD. The US had a bad cold, China is in the ICU
1
The terms were basically that Japan got to keep everything they took. That wasn’t surrendering in any meaningful way. Furthermore, the military leadership were happy to keep fighting. Just look at Okinawa.
1
@anthonykariuki5153 because the US trade security made mass international trade possible and places like China had much lower labor costs. However, with the breakdown of the international system and improved automation have changed the structure for many manufactured goods.
1
If you count the 54 states and territories as different states, the US is an empire and always was.
1
But not their ground.
1
Over half the world’s population are alive because of trade in food and fertilizer allowed under the Pax Americana.
1
@celdur4635 1) none of the others protected everyone’s trade. In fact, the hegemons spent a lot of effort interrupting the trade of the other powers. 2) the US is the world’s largest food exporter, but we don’t feed the entire world. If there’s not enough and fertilizer from places like Ukraine, countries in the Middle East and Africa aren’t going to be able to import or grow enough food.
1
There isn’t a river network like the Mississippi anywhere else. The long navigable rivers don’t end in warm water ports on the ocean, the ones that have warm water ocean ports aren’t navigable for most of their length.
1
You make a distinction without a different. Arizona is hell.
1
If you are ant to make Houston it own country go ahead.
1
This only really works after the industrial revolution, not Stone Age technology.
1
Your politics are showing through pretty badly. Trump went after Biden because Biden openly admitted to the crime on CSPAN. Biden openly said before being elected that he wasn’t going fallow the agreed on time line for withdrawal, which is why Trump pulled more troops out and the Taliban were attacking.
1
The Indian Wars were on what’s now home soil.
1
They were Stone Age farmers. To properly use the US’s natural resources you need the industrial revolution
1
They had Stone Age technology.
1
Either way makes sense because Japan on a diagonal.
1
India has a long standing trade relationship with Russia. India and China hate each other. If India can take out China, I doubt they’d pass it up. Who would you rather side with, the bully on your street or your friend on the other side of town?
1
Ok, if the US only has boomer subs and China attacks Guam, we’ll only have two options, do nothing or start the nuclear apocalypse. What about Somali pirates? Or any other conflict short of nuclear war?
1
@joelmogensen579 just admit you were wrong instead of dishonestly back peddling. Also, the bkack ops guy are still people, so sending them in still a risk to our people.
