  28.  @aachoocrony5754  my work is good. Most developing and developed countries are facing major demographic problems with quickly aging populations. The international trade system is collapsing as we speak. Only countries with the resources they need close by and the population to make and consume goods. The US is one of the few developed/developing with all of those, and it dwarfs the others in scale.

  29.  @aachoocrony5754  I do listen to plenty of other sources, and the ones with anything worth listening to generally agree with what Zeihan says. Lots of people are talking about the inevitable rise of China because they assume China is just going to keep growing. People were saying the same thing about Japan in the 80s. What they missed was Japan was on an S-curve of growth. China is clearly on an S-curve too, and their economy seems to have hit the upper plateau if not a downward trend. We’re seeing global trade breaking down right now. You can look up demographics without a problem, and Zeihan says, you don’t have an economy without people. That’s tautological. Everyone else just keeps arguing thing are just going to inexplicably stay the same without looking at other factors.

  32. Argentina has nearly as good a geography, and their government has done everything thing they can to destroy their economy. Argentina is still a middle income country because their geography is so good even their monumental blunders can only hurt them so bad. Anywhere with a lesser advantage would be a failed state.

  41.  @dranzacspartan8002  China has 350% of their GDP in debt. The US has 110%; not great but far from apocalyptic. There are 800 million Chinese who are living on little more than $1 a day. That’s incomparable to being poor in the US.  China has a marry-go-round of lockdowns putting hundreds of millions of people out of work. The US is still 3 million jobs behind where we were before covid, but again incomparable to China No currency can displace the USD has the reserve currency. No country has the mix of economic size, lack of government interference and hard currency. We might see some trade blocks develop a local currency for intra-block trading, like the Euro, but inter-block trading is going to be USD. The US had a bad cold, China is in the ICU

  42. The terms were basically that Japan got to keep everything they took. That wasn’t surrendering in any meaningful way. Furthermore, the military leadership were happy to keep fighting. Just look at Okinawa.

In fact, the hegemons spent a lot of effort interrupting the trade of the other powers.  2) the US is the world’s largest food exporter, but we don’t feed the entire world. If there’s not enough and fertilizer from places like Ukraine, countries in the Middle East and Africa aren’t going to be able to import or grow enough food.
