@jimmybrad156 coal, oil, and natural gas. You can even see impressions in black coal.
1
Probably not this design, but other are designed to power ships.
1
They have cut emissions because they’ve killed a huge part of their industry. Germany’s largest petrochemical company is in the process of moving their operations to Luisiana.
1
Only people who don’t have a clue about how much of a pain working with hydrogen is suggest it.
1
You’re libertarian and voted for one of the most openly authoritarian presidents in American history? You’re a terrible libertarian.
1
Elon isn’t a progressive. In fact, he’s had pretty negative things to say about progressives like Sen. Karen.
1
Your Canadian superiority complex is showing.
1
Biden has only ever represented his pay masters
1
Wow, your bigotry based on the place a person was born is wrong. Moreover, Tesla are the victims of a hoax hate crime.
1
I like to describe this as biomass is renewable but not sustainable.
1
You’ve got the sides all wrong. It’s the corrupt establishment and the leftists —who are also corrupt— and literally everyone else.
1
You really don’t know anything about this. Plutonium isn’t naturally accruing and has to be bred. Radium isn’t used in nuclear reactors. Reactor and weapons grade uranium aren’t the same. Depending on the reactor it takes between 0 and 20% enrichment. Weapons grade is at least 90%.
1
@pedrolopes3542 so you would rather speak from ignorance because of your prejudice, rather than judge technology based on it merits. RTGs and other similar technologies aren’t nuclear reactors, which is what meant when people say nuclear, but you prefer to look stupid because of your prejudice.
1
@pedrolopes3542 I actually know a fair bit about lithium ion batteries because I have an interest in Tesla. It’s kinda hard to have nuclear disaster before the first reactor, Pile-1, was built in the 40s. I’m also sure that you're including military/experimental reactors and non-reactor related incidents, like every other ignorant person who has made that argument to me.
1
@pedrolopes3542 by that standard just existing in the universe is a nuclear disaster. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries are lithium ion batteries just like the chemistries with nickel. LFPs are actually the dominant chemistry in China. They have their benefits, like longevity and cost, and down sides, like being less energy dense. Tesla uses cylindrical batteries over more common prismatic and pouch, mostly used electronics. Nope, I’m just a somewhat knowledgeable layman, but you’ve only scratched the surface and are proclaiming enlightenment on a subject. If that’s not the Dunning-Kruger and confession through projection, I don’t know what is.
1
@pedrolopes3542 no, you’re question is just overly broad. Most of Tesla’s batteries are nee in some way. The 4680 is a completely new form factor. Their tab-less electrode design is completely new. They’re also using silica electrodes. You’re read comprehension is total shit. You quote me calling myself a layman and then a few lines later are saying how I pretend to be an expert in these things.
1
It has everything to do with Unions, specifically the UAW. They’re the ones bribing Biden.
1
You’re brainwashed. Fossil fuel companies have supported renewables for decades and even run anti nuclear campaigns with environmental groups as their front. Russia even gave the German Green Party money, so Germany would get rid of their nuclear and be dependent on Russia natural gas
1
You can’t disable physics.
1
I understand stand why Jeff has a support yacht, but the optics are terrible.
1
No, you just like being ordered around and think EVs suck
1
Nuclear produces less CO2 than solar and wind, mining and everything included. Solar panels and wind turbines don’t magically pop out of the ground. It takes mining, refining, and manufacturing to build them.
1
A corrupt politician and a CEO aren’t strange bedfellows at all.
1
Well, the Chinese won’t out compete Tesla. Also, hopefully Biden is removed next year, and if he isn’t, he’s not winning the next election.
1
Yes, I would
1
Xi is turning back much of the economic liberalization, and even if he wasn’t, all of the major companies have major state involvement in them.
1
@JohnBoen and that has what to do with what I wrote.
1
@sandmehlig digging a hole takes time, and one of the operators is going to notice heavy equipment digging up a reactor.
1
Republicans don’t think in relational terms like that.
1
@ambroulard I lived in Texas for 28 of the 30 years I’ve been alive. I only moved to Florida in 2020.
1
@ambroulard good for you, but what does that have anything to do with this?
1
@ambroulard you’re the one who said I’ve never been to Texas. Maybe you’re just doing senile and can’t remember your own comments just a couple replies before, even though you could read them.
1
You are completely brainwashed. Calling out Trudeau’s fascism is the exact opposite of fascist. Also, poor countries have more secure electoral processes than the US. Introducing some basic security is protecting free elections.
1
Wind and solar produce waste that has to be stored until the end of time
1
@nio6297 you can’t recycle cadmium run off from mining. Spent fuel can and is recycled. However, it’s better to burn it in fast reactors because that destroys the long lived actinides, but even if we don’t, those only have a half-life of 10,000 years so can’t last millions of years. Moreover, anything with a half-life that long is so weakly radioactive that it’s not dangerous
1
Germany is trying that. Instead of more renewables, they’re burning more brown coal, the dirtiest fossil fuel.
1
Trying to make renewables reliable is stupid when we have stable nuclear
1
@gridjac I agree that SMRs are the future being cheaper. My point was that we don’t need SMRs, many of which are fast reactors, to deal with the spent fuel per se.
1
You’re just making up paranoid fantasies. These reactors will most likely be leased to a community if they aren’t just buying the electricity from a company.
1
The wast from solar lasts trillions of years
1
@alandunlap4106 a hat isn’t going protect you from heavy metal poisoning
1
@alandunlap4106 You get it from the lead in dead solar panels leaching out. Pu 238 and 239 are alpha emitters and safe enough to hold in your hands.
1
@vimmentors6747 I wouldn’t say has nothing to do with it. Their obsession with wind and solar left them dependent on natural gas. If they had built nuclear instead of solar and wind, they wouldn’t be dependent on natural gas.
1
Renewables aren’t reliable. At best they work 30% of the time, so they have to other energy sources when they’re not working. Europe, except for France, shut down most of their nuclear, and they can’t get natural gas from Russia any more. The only option they have is coal.
1
@davidmannion5362 there’s not enough batteries in the world to power Germany, let alone all of Europe, and France has empirically shown nuclear is cheaper. Even before Russia invaded Ukraine, France had some the lowest electricity prices in Europe. Germany and all of the others who went with solar and wind had the highest
1
Most countries use a nonsensical mix of metric and what ever the local system was. The UK just removed some EU restrictions on using imperial units. Also, most people in the US pay with credit/debit or cash.
1
Biden isn’t a machiavellian genius. He’s just corrupt.
1
Every ban on ICE cars should be revoked. If you truly believe EVs are the better way to build cars, you should see a ban on ICE as government tyranny trying to force what was already going to happen
1
They don’t. Nuclear is steady and slow to ramp. Wind and and solar are highly variable. The only fuel that can ramp fast enough to cover for the wild swings of wind amd solar is natural gas, so more wind and solar means more natural gas.
1
@Driver6M batteries that can power cities for hours let alone days don’t exist
